Angel Beats! is a franchise consisting of a thirteen-episode anime (plus two OVAs and a short epilogue), which was followed by four manga, a light novel (adapted into one of the manga), and a visual novel—all developed by Key/Visual Arts.

Canon

The story follows Otonashi, an amnesiac teenager who finds himself enrolled in the "afterlife school", a limbo-like threshold in which the deceased must let go of their worldly attachments before passing on to the afterlife. His rifle-wielding classmate Nakamura "Yurippe" Yuri then recruits Otonashi into the Shinda Sekai Sensen (Afterlife Battlefront), a paramilitary organization with a purpose to defeat Angel, the student council president, for supposedly working for God, whom the SSS blames for their suffering in life.[1]
