Founding dates

I keep forgetting to ask, for founding dates, are we going by community creation date or when the first post was made? --Wistfuljane 20:00, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

Due South Reporter

Could we move mentions of Due South Reporter to a new section like Influences or Predecessor? Because while I agree that Due South Reporter was a predecessor of newsletters (and noticeboards) as they exist on LiveJournal fandom, I wouldn't say that it was a newsletter. Or at least add a note about how Quick Quote being more of a direct influence on newsletter development? --wistfuljane 20:05, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

Okay, I gave it a shot. Is that any better? --Arduinna 21:04, 23 February 2009 (UTC)
Thank you! That is better than anything I could said about the difference between Due South Reporter and newsletters. --wistfuljane 21:18, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

pre-internet history needed

As the astute Mrs. Potato Head pointed out, this article doesn't cover print newsletters. In fact, the current state of the article implies that no one ever thought to create a newsletter for anything until Livejournal came along. Were print newsletters called something else? Also, it seems like a mailing list would be the perfect format for a newsletter, but no mention is made of it here. Input from fans who were around before lj would be helpful!--Æthel 17:53, 9 September 2009 (UTC)

By which I mean, excellent article! But somewhat limited in scope.--Æthel 15:58, 10 September 2009 (UTC)
Hee! Yes. Actually somewhere or other I started writing up more info (because I had the same reaction on seeing this - newsletters have a really long fannish history, both paper and online!), but never finished it. If no one else gets to this, I'll see if I can dig it out. --Arduinna 16:25, 10 September 2009 (UTC)
As a start we could just link to the zines that already identify themselves as "newsletter" on fanlore akin to the community lists for LJ, i.e. Beyond Antares (UK zine), SCAM Presents, Minas Tirith Evening Star, Baracus News, Starnet, maybe more...--Ratcreature 16:37, 10 September 2009 (UTC)

split the page in two?

Most of the sections on this page are only about livejournal-style newsletters, which implicitly suggests that everything else was just the precursor to the real thing. I think it would make more sense to spin off the lj newsletter info to its own page, called ... er, Newsletter Community? And then this page could expand on other types of newsletters. --æthel 05:50, 6 November 2010 (UTC)

Two years later... I did it.--æþel 23:44, 3 November 2012 (UTC)

removing "stub" tag

Is it time, or does the article still feel too short/incomplete to do so? --Sk 01:40, 18 May 2011 (UTC)

No way is this still a stub. It could use more perspectives (welcome on any page! I am considering a proposal to design a new template for articles that are not stubs but need more general perspective; not particularly any kind), but it's length precludes stubbiness. --Awils1 09:44, 19 May 2011 (UTC)
