Con Report: The Third Con

In Pop Stand Express #5, the convention organizer submitted the following convention report for the third Spycon:

This convention was held September 20-22, 1985 at the Sheraton-Naperville, in Naperville, Illinois. Originally subtitled "An Affair to Remember", we worked to make this the most memorable con of all, by taking ideas and suggestions received at SPYCONs 1 & 2 and incorporating them into our programming. From listening and talking to the conventioneers, I think we succeeded, as eveeyone seemed to get involved in all the activities planned. The agenda consisted of: 60's Trivia contest, caption the photo contest, art show, film/video room showing UNCLE, MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE, THE AVENGERS, 77 SUNSET STRIP, PETER QUINN and other tv programs, raffles held throughout the weekend to raise money for the LEO G. CARROLL fund (money being used to purchase an urn and placque for Mr. Carroll's final resting place), 60's costume party/masquerade - conventioneers were invited to dress as someone from the 60's, and of course the dealers room , where everyone was sure to find something to add to their collections. Some of the 60's characters who put in an appearance at the party were: Gillian, Jeannie (from I Dream of Jeannie), The Little Old Man From Laugh-In, and Cher. Last, but not least, the high point of SPYCON 3 were the two auctions held to raise money for the March of Dimes. The Total amount raised for the March of Dimes was $1,826 - which was more than double the amount raised at SpyCon 2. We had loads of goodies to auction off: cuff links donated by Normal Felton that were given to him by Ian Fleming, autographed photos from David McCallum, Robert Vaughn, Stephanie Powers, Noel Harrison, Robert Culp, Bill Cosby and Patricia Crowley, record albums, scrapbooks (one on each of the UNCLE stars ), posters, autographed scripts, and much more. Approximately 200 people were in attendance , all of whom appeared to have a great time meeting old and new friends, talking shop, picking up items for their collections, participating in the planned activities and watching old tv show and movies. A fantastic event benefiting a great cause.
