Everything, Always is a Merlin/Arthur slash story by dreamdustmama (~6,500 words). It was originally posted anonymously to kinkme_merlin and later claimed by the author.

The story won the Spring 2010 Merlin Slash Awards in the category Best Finding Out ("Arthur/Merlin Fanfiction") against competition like Treason to Us.

Summary: Arthur discovers Merlin's magic, but no matter how hard he tries he can't tell him that he knows - even when he starts having nightmares about Merlin's death.

Comments

"Arthur's growing anxiety and restlessness was palpable, as was his protectiveness of Merlin. I loved that he didn't wonder why Merlin never told him, how he went out of his way to be more careful on himself so that Merlin didn't have to do magic and how it was all misunderstood. The characters pass a lot of time gazing out of windows in this and it really sets the mood of watching the same reality but from a distance and seeing things clearly but from another point of view. Last, I loved the romantic climax in the rain." (Anonymous)[1]

"As others have said, this is how I want the reveal to happen. I love that Arthur doesn't blame or even wonder why Merlin never told him and how the knowledge of keeping Merlin's secret safe shakes Arthur to the core." (Anonymous)[2]

"I like how the roles have been switched, and Arthur's the one now who has to do The Telling, and decide when's the best time for it - very sneakily done, and I was so surprised when I realized halfway that he's now in the traditional Merlin-shoes. Loved the thought put into developing this, and how you've established their relationship before the actual nightmares, and how that final confrontation worked out - Merlin walking in on Arthur's nightmares is a surprise twist, and I loved what he thought of it, and Arthur's words."
