Cartographer's Craft is a Harry Potter fanfic by Sam Starbuck. The pairings are Harry Potter/Sirius Black (now younger through the magic of time travel), Remus/Tonks, and Hermione/Ron.

The author's summary describes it as:

In the summer after Harry's sixth year, Harry and Remus uncover a section of the Marauder's Map which has been hidden for the past twenty years, releasing a carbon copy of sixteen-year-old Sirius Black from its depths. As they prepare for the impending war, Sirius must find a place for himself in this new world, Harry must find a way to destroy Voldemort, and Remus must face his own past while trying to build a tenuous future with Tonks.

The story was started before the publication of Half-Blood Prince but revised part-way through to incorporate HBP canon.[1]

Reactions & Reviews

From Fail_Fandomanon

"Cartographer's Craft by Copperbadge has a 16-year-old Sirius coming forward in time to when Harry is 16. Excellent long plotfic with Sirius/Harry."[2]

"Kid!Sirius just felt too much like an OC, mainly. Like, what's the point of a "Sirius gets resurrected" fic if it's not poor grownup went-to-Azkaban-age-21ish-and-died-age-35ish Sirius? It was kind of frustrating, like his whole life had been a waste of time.

Plus, I like R/S, but I wouldn't have wanted it with Kid!Sirius, and it wasn't going to happen anyway."[3]

On Archive of Our Own

"I first discovered this fic years ago and absolutely, utterly adored it. I've reread it a couple times since then, but after a long break from the HP fandom I returned to it once more and, I've got to say, it's even better this time around. It ages *beautifully*. It is the perfect mixture of darkness and lightheartedness, quick one liners and deep, insightful paragraphs. The characters are so well rounded and *real* that it makes almost any other fic pale in comparison, and in many ways is better than the actual seventh book. There is not a thing about it I dislike, and the only think I can say is, "Bravo.""[4]
