BURN (also stylised as B#RN) was an unreleased LOONA song. It was hinted to be LOONA's next title track (after "Butterfly)", but it was never released, and only teasers exist. Fans have attempted remake the song in full, whenever using original instrumental, or by remixing the teasers of the song. This has been done twice, once by ZSunder, and another by JENE (formerly Jenorbit).

The Original BURN

In 2019, 'BURN' was hinted by BlockBerry Creative as the title track for LOONA's upcoming album. However, once creative director Jaden Jeong departed the company, it was generally believed that 'BURN' had been scrapped (or repurposed into the song "So What").

Before this, 'BURN' was hinted on several occasions. The first in a teaser released in 2019 (immediately after "Butterfly" promotions had ended) with the ending sequence 'BURN'.[1] The second in a dance cover for BTS's Fire where all members can be seen wearing a shirt with the words "B#RN".[2] It was hinted that BURN would be boy group and hip hop-style.

The fandom then entered what was dubbed as 'loonathedrought', a period of time wherein LOONA was inactive. In this time it was generally believed the song had been scrapped.

ZSunder's BURN

ZSunder was already a popular Orbit and K-Pop fan, known to have created various remixes and instrumentals, most notably a version of LOONA's "Butterfly", edited using the teasers for the songs, released before the official song, and has been noted for being eerily similar to the final release.

In April 2019, much like Butterfly, ZSunder would create an instrumental mix for the teasers of the presumed title track "B#RN". Though the real version was never released, so ZSunder is the only available version.

BURN pt. II

In December 2019, ZSunder created a follow-up track called "BURN pt.II", improving upon his previous BURN. This time inspired by Move from Taemin and Knew Better pt. 2 by Ariana Grande. As he puts:

I had a lot of fun doing this and seeing the difference in my production style after a few months. Heavily inspired by Move from Taemin and Knew Better pt. 2 by Ariana Grande with a little bit of jenorbit's version of burn as well.

This is part of a new LOONA demo project I'm working on 👀 although it would be kinda pointless cuz LOONA will (finally) be releasing new music soon[3]

Demo 2021 Rework

In 2021, he released a new version of the song, reworking it, and releasing it as the "Demo 2021 Rework":

It's already been 2 years since I released the original demo...whew. I know a lot of you really liked it so I wanted to see how I would approach the same demo a few years later!

Bought some new headphones, I honestly don't know if my master got any better or worse but hopefully its an improvement from my previous mixes lol[4]

A fan has written lyrics and recorded a vocal cover for ZSunder's BURN.

Jenorbit's BURN

JENE (formerly known as Jenorbit) has also created a version of BURN based upon the teaser released.

Reception

From the Demo Rework:

YES! we know we in the drought when zsunder starts giving the instrumentals to the songs we never got i ain’t complaining tho[5]

burn will forever be an iconic song we'll never hear but thank you Zsunder for giving us the experience burn would've given us[6]

I went back to relisten to the original one you posted. I like the faster tempo of this one, much more trendy and feels very 2021 in comparison. The mastering is better here, I think. I thought the OG was a little sparse personally. Both give different feelings, but maintain a very full, grander iconic and memorable sense of LOONA. Good job as always. It's nice to hear the improvements and changes.[7]
