The Toasterverse is an enormously popular universe of fics that scifigrl47 started posting prior to the release of The Avengers movie and which is still ongoing. It is currently made up of two series in progress and one behind-the-scenes collection of headcanon pieces. The primary pairing is Steve/Tony, though Clint/Coulson features heavily; Thor/Jane has also been focused on, and Sif/Maria Hill is featured in one story. Also OC Harris MacIntyre and Darcy Lewis are paired together in more than one story. There are a number of popular OCs featured in the verse, including the titular toaster.

The Toasterverse is also known as "The Roombaverse".

In Which Tony Stark Builds Himself Some Friends (But His Family Was Assigned By Nick Fury)

The primary series in the Toasterverse, In Which Tony Stark Builds Himself Some Friends (But His Family Was Assigned By Nick Fury) is a mix of domestic fluff, heavily plotted action fics, and a fix-it fic for the big spoiler in The Avengers. It is currently made up of six fics:

  • Hollow Your Bones Like A Bird's: ~95,514 words, rated Mature. In the wake of the Chitauri invasion, Clint Barton wakes up in a world that he very nearly had a hand in destroying. And confronting a loss he might not be able to cope with. The Avengers always needed something to avenge, but once the crisis is past, what keeps them together?
  • Some Things Shouldn't Be A Chore: ~22,000 words, rated Teen and Up. Steve takes things like personal responsibility and respect seriously. Tony's got people he pays to take care of that kind of thing, and anyway, he's pretty sure that he's going to die of some exotic disease in his workshop, because Dummy's still a little spotty about what is 'clean' enough to put on an open wound. The rest of the Avengers are in this for personal gain, except for Clint, he just enjoys being a dick. And some things shouldn't be a chore. Characters introduced are, Calcifer the toaster and the Roomba Army.
  • Ordinary Workplace Hazards, Or SHIELD And OSHA Aren't On Speaking Terms: ~26,000 words, rated Mature. Tony Stark has once again engineered something that might well lead to the downfall of Western Civilization. No one's really surprised. This time, however, it might just be the lesser of two evils. Clint and Phil hate playing pickup, but damn, Clint loves the Roombas, and damn, Phil loves Clint, though he's not really sure why sometimes. It's time to play Hide-And-Seek with hostile robotic AIs in the SHIELD home office.
  • Four (Or Five) Reasons for Kidnapping Tony Stark: ~78,000 words, rated Teen and Up. There are four reasons for kidnapping Tony Stark. Tony's sick of all of them. Well, there's potentially a fifth, but it's highly unlikely that Captain America will suddenly fulfill THAT fantasy. Tony's deeply disappointed about that. Steve Rogers, as always, is oblivious. At least, that is, until someone who isn't him kidnaps Tony. Then he's just pissed. Characters introduced are Harris MacIntyre.
  • Dating the Long Way Around: ~67,000 words, rated Mature. Tony Stark was pretty sure the Universe had it out for him. Call it karma, or the natural balance, but on occasion, he had a sneaking suspicion that for every good thing that happened to him, something bad was waiting around the corner. That being the case, his first real date with Steve Rogers would probably lead to something disastrous. But in that he was, in fact, going on his first real date with Steve, he wasn't sure he cared. Steve was certain he didn't. It's a Thursday night in New York City, what can possibly go wrong? Characters introduced are Dr. Strange, Wanda & Pietro Maximoff, Gambit, Sam Wilson, Redwing, Kitty Pryde, and Peter Parker.
  • Things Unseen (That Are Captured on Film): ~41,000 words, rated Mature. Written for the Cap/Iron Man Big Bang in 2012. In which the Avengers discover the video footage of Tony testing the Iron Man armor, and that goes about as well as it could be expected. Steve Rogers attempts to make peace with his lover's rather cavalier attitude to his health and safety, and starts learning more about Tony's family along the way, both the one he was born into, and the one he's chosen. And, of course, the one that's chosen him. Subtitled: It's all Clint's fault. No one is surprised.
  • Hunting The Hero: ~12,761 words, rated Mature. Some mistakes cannot be corrected. Some sins cannot be forgiven. Some things cannot be made right. And some roads, once taken, will never lead you home. That doesn't people from trying. Especially people who've done the impossible before. -INCOMPLETE Was thought to be abandoned in April 2015, but may be updated soon.

Phil Coulson's Case Files of the Toasterverse

An offshoot series of the Toasterverse, Phil Coulson's Case Files of the Toasterverse is made up of twenty one short stories from an undefined period during or after In Which Tony Stark Builds Himself Some Friends (But His Family Was Assigned By Nick Fury). It is almost exclusively domestic fluff verging on crack, although some, like "We Can Never Go Back To Before" help explain characters backstories.

  • Phil Coulson is Not the Avengers' Public Relations Manager: ~7,000 words, rated Teen and Up. From the Avengers Case Files of Phil Coulson: Grocery shopping is necessary, Tony's a little too proud of his tech, Captain America's lost on the streets of New York, and sometimes social injustice just happens. Phil Coulson's the one who's got to write this nonsense up, and he is not their PR Manager. Characters introduced are Shawn and Drew.
  • Phil Coulson Does Not Bake (And The Avengers Do Not Shop At IKEA Anymore: ~7,000 words, rated General Audiences. Sometimes Tony Stark makes poor choices. Sometimes Tony pushes his teasing of Steve Rogers just a little too far. Sometimes Steve decides he's had enough.
Phil Coulson's the one who's got to write this nonsense up, and he does not bake.
SHIELD has very, very strange employment interviews that occasionally involve flying Roombas, and Phil Coulson is not a SHIELD recruiter.
  • Phil Coulson Can't Keep the Avengers Out of Medical: ~11,000 words, rated Teen and Up. Tony Stark sometimes doesn't make the best choices with his health. Tony is usually bad at communicating. Steve usually doesn't end up in medical, but there are always exceptions.
Phil Coulson is the one who has to write up this nonsense, and he can't keep the Avengers out of medical.
  • SHIELD Has Paperwork for Everything: ~14,000 words, rated Mature. Clint Barton knows where his loyalties lie, and they have more to do with his handler than his employer. Phil Coulson takes his responsibilities seriously, and a big part of his job is protecting the agent in his care from any threat to his well-being.
At this rate, neither of them is going to get a date. Natasha Romanov has other ideas, and the only side she's on is her own.
  • Phil Coulson Does Not Take Attendance: ~10,000 words, rated Teen and Up. Sometimes, taking a job working for SHIELD is the end of a journey. Sometimes, it's the beginning. Everyone has to take the same briefings, no matter where they came from, or why they're there. Some people are destined to play hooky, willingly or not. Some people have better things to do, and some people want minions.
Phil Coulson has to write up this nonsense, and he does not take attendance.
  • Phil Coulson Is Not the Avengers Matchmaker (Or Their Style Consultant): ~16,000 words, rated Teen and Up. Thor really is everyone's favorite. With Jane Foster moving to New York at last, it's only fitting that the team come together to welcome the new arrivals, in high class New York style. Tony Stark makes poor choices, everyone needs a nice outfit eventually, and sometimes, it's harder being a princess than it looks.
Phil Coulson has to write this nonsense up, and he is not the Avengers' matchmaker. They could do worse than to follow his fashion advice, however.
  • Ghosts of Christmas Memory: ~12,000 words, rated Teen and Up. There were three Christmases that Phil Coulson and Clint Barton spent together that altered their relationship. They were tied together by a song, a job, and Clint's ability to become injured in just about any situation. Christmas is a time of giving, friendship and love.
  • Phil Coulson Doesn't Work for Stark Industries: ~18,000 words, rated Teen and Up. Sleeping with a super hero is great, until he becomes a little restless at night. Tony Stark, not the easiest sleeper himself, knows his way around a nightmare, but what do you do when protecting the ones you love leads to unexpected international incidents? Subtitled: lying to Steve Rogers is much harder than it looks. Phil Coulson's the one in charge of writing this nonsense up, and he does not work at StarkIndustries. -INCOMPLETE
  • The Best of Life and Asgard: ~16,000 words, rated Mature. Tony Stark has been drunk at a few parties in his life. A quick browse of YouTube makes that impossible to deny, so he doesn't bother. But he can control himself, he doesn't have to drink. He can stay perfectly sober for just one night. He promised, he could go one night without drinking. The problem is, he was the only one who made that promise.
  • Discussions in Dynamic Relationships: ~5,000 words, rated General Audiences. Betty Ross hasn't seen Bruce Banner in more than a year.
Jane Foster saw Bruce three days ago.
They're both attending the "21st Annual Women in Science and Technology Conference."
Bruce, obviously, is not. He's going to regret that, soon enough.
  • Extracurricular Activities: ~8,000 words, rated Teen and Up. New York has a party for any taste. Some people like high class lounges. Some enjoy a good dive bar. There are gay bars and techno clubs and all night raves. And somewhere out there, there's a club where the dancers are dressed like Super Heroes, and Spider-Man may or may not be their headliner.
Let's face it, the everyone assumed that Clint would be the first Avenger to take up pole dancing. He's a little distressed he's been beaten to the punch.
Clint feels vindicated by this. -INCOMPLETE
  • The Avengers' Calendar: ~25,000 words, rated Teen and Up. A years worth of events, moments, celebrations, and public appearances in the lives of the Avengers.
Each chapter a new month, and a new excuse for writing holiday fic. New characters and new relationships will likely be added as I go. -INCOMPLETE
  • Phil Coulson Knows Tony Stark's Super Villain Name: ~14,000 words, rated Teen and Up. The only thing really stopping Tony Stark from attempting to conquer the world is that he wouldn't know what to do with it once he conquered it. He's still pretty sure he could do it, though.
SHIELD's pretty sure he could do it, too, and SHIELD is pretty uncomfortable with that. There's a plan in place, in case Tony makes a try for world domination, or any sort of caped super villainy. It involves Steve. No one is surprised.
This is not that plan. This is a training exercise, involving paint balls.
It might end with world domination, anyway.
  • Diplomatic Relations and Intelligence Failures: ~40,000 words, rated Teen and Up. Maria Hill would like a night off, and maybe a date. She's not likely to get either one of them, so she's pretty resigned to long nights of protecting the world from behind the scenes. It's very satisfying, but not quite in the way she's hoping for.
Most people who know Maria are far too intimidated to make a pass. Luckily, the Lady Sif doesn't have that problem.
It's not his choice and it's not something he's happy about, and that was before he found out where he'd be spending the next week.
Harris isn't sure how he ended up with this being his life, but he's doing his best with the hand he's been dealt. That usually results in a trip to SHIELD medical, but he's getting used to it.
  • A Long Time Coming: ~9,000 words, rated General Audiences. Harris gets a cat. In the most complicated way he can. Characters introduced are Slink The Cat.
  • The Clothes Make the Man: ~8,000 words, rated General Audiences. The Avengers volunteer to help out at a library fund raiser. In costume.
Tony has a large budget and Natasha likes to torment everyone in the vicinity. Things are going to go well.
  • We Can Never Go Back To Before: ~5,360 words, rated Teen and Up. A long time ago, I wrote a popular fic. And in that fic, I introduced a character that was supposed to die during the course of the story. I changed my mind at the last minute and let him walk out of the situation he was in. Mostly because I was sad and tired and sick of death myself, and letting him live seemed like giving myself a reprieve as well. So he lived. It's not that Harris regrets it. But sometimes he thinks it would've been simpler. OC Nonsense only here. You've been warned. Was thought to be abandoned in 2018, October 3, but may be updated soon. -INCOMPLETE
