Trace.moe (also called WAIT: What Anime Is This?) is an online tool that compares a user-provided image with a large database of anime, to let the user know what show and what episode/timestamp the image is screen captured from.
There has been a lot of anime screencaps and GIFs spreading around the internet, but very few of them mention the source. While those online platforms are gaining popularity, trace.moe respects the original producers and staffs by showing interested anime fans what the original source is. This search engine encourages users to give credits to the original creater / owner before they share stuff online.[1]
The site was previously located at WhatAnime.ga, but was moved to Trace.moe in October 2018.[2]
The site is maintained by soruly and supported by Patreon donations. The initial public beta version opened on December 19, 2015.[3]
The code is open-source on GitHub.
