The Adventures of Gerard: Boy Princess of the Ocean and Frank: the Italian Gentleman's Son Who Loved Him is a fancomic by theopteryx. It was posted to the Livejournal community thegaystarfish starting on February 25, 2008. In the summer 2008 Book One of the comic had a small print run. The printed version had full color covers and never seen art inside.

In the words of its creator:

So a few years ago I did a comic known as The Adventures of Gerard: Boy Princess of the Ocean and Frank: the Italian Gentleman’s Son Who Loved Him, or just the gay starfish comics. The plot of the comics is, uh, pretty self-explanatory. They were SO ridiculous and SO strange and pretty much the most fun I’ve had in any fandom, ever.[1]

Overview

Book One starts as Frank, a 1700s Italian gentleman's son, meets and is 'kidnapped' by Gerard, Boy Princess of the ocean, and his giant squid Moop Moop. They fall in love.

Book Two begins with our heroes separated by the kingdom's need for an heir and their own inability to talk about their feelings.

The comic also contained an on-going meta subplot depicting the tragic romance between the gay starfish and the comic's narration scroll.

Recs

As posted by turlough:

This full-length comic is a well-deserved classic in the fandom. The storyline is so adorable and sweet and cracked-out and totally hilarious, all the characters - both the main ones and all the side-characters - are fantastic, and the art is absolutely fabulous. theopteryx's has a wonderfully expressive style. I love the way she can capture expressions and body-language with just a few lines.[2]
