My first fic for public consumption was an Oz story posted on the web in October 2000. Prior to that, I did a lot of (omgreallybad) writing just for myself, not even realizing fandom existed except in my own porny little mind. A few months before discovering Oz, I had been writing some vaguely-slashy stories based on the "Gabriel Knight" video games, but those were just languishing on my hard drive and giving me some cheap thrills. It wasn't until I discovered Oz and went looking for more info about the show on the web that I realized there were other people out there doing the same kind of thing. That's where it really started for me. (Looking back, though, it probably all began with those fantasies a friend and I used to write about Shaun Cassidy when I was 9 or 10...)
Oz was my primary (and only) fandom for nearly three years, and since the Big Gay Love is actually a canon relationship on that show, I considered myself more of a monogamous 'shipper than a slasher during that time. But then I saw the pilot episode of Smallville, and I defy *anyone* with even a passing interest in slash to resist that! ;) So I was all about Clark/Lex for a year or so. But while I've been heavily (and continuously) involved in Oz fandom since 2000, with Smallville I mainly just read the fic. I did write a bit but I never posted it anywhere, and I didn't really participate in the list discussions. The tendency toward character-bashing in Smallville really turned me off from getting too involved. My interest in Smallville faded just around the same time that many of my favorite SV authors were migrating to SGA, which worked out perfectly for me. ;)
