Moebius Theatre Presents: Stage Wars, or Who's Biggs? is a 31-page gen Star Wars script plus illos of a con skit that was performed at WindyCon in 1977.

The zine has cartoons by Phil Foglio. Its price was "2 Doodahs." It has stiff covers and is staple-bound.

About the Play, and the Zine

STAGE WARS (or, "Who's Biggs?") was first performed October 7, 1977, at WindyCon 4, and the troupe has never looked back since. The troupe is Moebius Theatre.

We have since gone on to other and (I believe) better things, but it is undeniable that this movie parody, received so enthusiastically at two SF conventions, was our beachhead in fandom. Still and all, I think it's unlikely that Moebius Theatre will ever perform it again; the demands on casting and props are massive, and we don't want to be known only as The Group That Does Stage Wars.

Two attempts to videotape the show failed, however, and we just couldn't let it die — so here, at least is the script, for the benefit of anyone who missed the performance.

Just because we don't plan to perform it again doesn't mean nobody should. Anyone interested in putting on this show will find the stage directions fairly detailed, and the illustrations by Phil Foglio will convey some idea of the costume designs. There is a royalty charged by the troupe for any productions, but nonprofessional royalties are quite modest. For information, contact E. Michael Blake [home address and phone number redacted].

Please note that STAGE WARS the play is (c) copyright 1977, 1978, 1979, 1980 by Moebius Theatre. You must obtain our permission to perform it in any sense greater than sitting around on the floor and reading it out loud to others.

There are about 50,000 anecdotes surrounding the making and performing of STAGE WARS, but these are almost certainly of interest only to us in the troupe. It's best not to let them get in the way of the script. Of course, if the public were to demand a separate book, "The Making of STAGE WARS"...no, huh?

Who is Biggs?

Biggs was a character who grew up with Luke Skywalker and who had more scenes in the original script; he appears only briefly in a space fight scene in A New Hope, and the audience might be justified in asking "Who's Biggs?" when Luke calls him by name and is subsequently upset over his death.

When the Special Edition of the film was released in 1997, it contained an extra Biggs scene that gave more context.

The play in 1977, and the zine, published in 1979, preceded all these questions.
