rec.arts.anime.misc was the major newsgroup for English-language anime discussions. It began as rec.arts.anime and in March 1996, RAA was so high-traffic that it was disbanded and split into several different groups include this rec.arts.anime.misc aka. (RAAM) for general fan discussions (the official replacement for RAA and still the most active group, averaging over a thousand posts a month in 2008[1]). There were also many more specialized newsgroups, including groups for individual anime, such as listed on this 2004 Master List of Anime Related Newsgroups. Steve Pearl was a/the moderator of rec.arts.anime.misc from the late 1980s to the mid-1990s. He created the group's "list of frequently asked questions."
