Gameplay Challenges

100 Baby Challenge

The 100 Baby Challenge challenges players to have 100 babies in as few generations as possible. It was created by Amiisays for TS2, and updated for TS4 by Snarky-Sims-Witch.

Apocalypse Challenge

The Apocalypse Challenge is a challenge created by Pinstar for TS2, where you have to image the world had ended and your Sims have to save the town. However, your Sims are extremely limited due to the various restrictions that you have to overcome.

Black Widow Challenge

The Black Widow challenge was originally created by discordkitty for TS2 and later adapted for TS3 by LampreM, where the goal is to have your Sim be like a black widow, marry a Sim and then kill them after you get another Sim moved in to marry. Repeat until your Black Widow dies.

Breed Out The Weird Challenge

The Breed Out The Weird challenge, also known as the Breed Out The Ugly challenge, is a challenge in which the player creates or downloads a sim that is as ugly or strange as possible, typically by maxing out the sliders to inhuman proportions. The player then aims to create normal or attractive looking descendants of this sim in as few generations as possible by having kids with townies. The official rules were created by MaggieMarley.

Due to the focus on creating generations of a single family, some players choose to combine the Breed Out The Weird challenge with the Legacy challenge.

Homeless Challenge

The Homeless Challenge, also known as the Poverty Challenge, is a challenge created by yinakori. Although the challenge can be short and you deal with only one Sim (unless that Sim has a baby), it can also be difficult because you are limited very much in what you can do since you Sim has to act "homeless". You complete the challenge if you can reach $20,000.

A notable completed example of this challenge is the story of Alice and Kev created by Robin Burkinshaw, the response was so great that Burkinshaw promotes charities that support homeless people [1].

Legacy Challenge

The Legacy Challenge is one of the most well-known challenges in the Sims community, which first appeared in the TS2 and created by fan Pinstar; the challenge was later adapted for TS3 and TS4.

The Legacy Challenge is a challenge that takes place over ten generations of Sims, where you get points for every rule you follow and subtract points when you don't. You start with a founder, who will start your family and is actually the only Sim that you can directly edit their personality and looks. Everyone else will be married into or born, with only a few chances at choosing their personality traits.

Pinstar has also created a Lite version of the challenge, which removes the scoring system and some of the more intricate rules. Some fans will also refer to a playthrough as a ‘legacy’ when they play by the basic premise (i.e. playing through ten generations of sims, starting with a founder and 1800 simoleons) even when they break some of the rules of the challenge, such as creating spouses or not randomising traits.

Due to the popularity of it, many different adaptions were created with a few twists but usually follow the main rules in the Legacy Challenge.

Alphabet Challenge

The Alphabet Challenge takes the Legacy rules and adds the twist of alphabetical order of children names for 26 generations, or you have to have 26 children in one generation before your Sim dies.

Disney Challenge

The Disney Challenge takes the Legacy rules and twists it with the Disney Fandoms, starting with Cinderella and continuing with Mulan, Toy Story, The Fox and the Hound, Snow White, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Lion King, Nightmare Before Christmas, Beauty and the Beast, and The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Bonus ending is to continue on with Peter Pan. There are also a few other options so to mix and match or add to your generations list: Pocahontas, Marry Poppins, Sleeping Beauty, Pinocchio, Alice In Wonderland, and The Princess and the Frog. An example of what you could do is located here.

Not So Berry Challenge

The Not So Berry Challenge colour codes each generation and adds traits and rules that each generation must obey. It was created by Lilsimsie and alwaysimming with the intention of challenging players to interact with parts of the game they’d never explored before.

Rainbow Challenge

The Rainbow Challenge takes the Legacy rules and adds the twist of colors to it. Each generation has to represent a color which must be clear to see, such as one generation would be blue, the next pink, etc. It was created by dolly_riot and scarred_id, and the official website is currently maintained by alexination.

Random Challenge

The Random Challenge randomises rules that must be followed for each generation. It was created by Tigger89.

Zodiac Challenge

The Zodiac Challenge is a 12 generation legacy in which every generation embodies the traits of a different zodiac sign. It was created by autumnalpixels.

Rags to Riches Challenge

The Rags to Riches Challenge, sometimes referred to as R2R, is a challenge by SimishGamer for TS4 in which the player starts with zero simoleons and aims to reach a certain amount of wealth. The offical rules create restrictions designed to make the challenge more difficult - for example, introducing criteria that a sim must meet before being able to build a house or get a job. However, many fans will refer to any playthrough in which the player starts with zero simoleons as a Rags to Riches, regardless of any other rules followed.

Create a Sim and Build Challenges

Black and White Challenge

The Black and White Challenge is a CAS and build challenge created by James Turner, formerly known as The Sims Supply, in which the player switches their monitor to greyscale mode so they cannot see the colour of the swatches they pick. The aim is to create a sim or build that looks as good as possible when colour is turned back on.

Every Room is a Different (Blank) Challenge

The Every Room is a Different (Blank) Challenge is a build challenge in which every room in a house must follow a certain rule. For example, every room might be a different colour, have a different budget, or be inspired by a different sim or fandom character. It was created by Vixella in it’s original form as the “Every Room is a Different Pack” Challenge.

Inverted Colour Challenge

The Inverted Colour Challenge is a CAS and build challenge created by James Turner, formerly known as The Sims Supply, in which the player switches their monitor to inverted colour mode so they cannot see the colour of the swatches they pick. The aim is to create a sim or build that looks as good as possible when colour is turned to normal.

No Mistakes Challenge

The No Mistakes Challenge is a CAS and build challenge created by Simply Simlie and popularised by XUrbanSimsX in which all decisions made are final. Choosing a sims’s hair or clothes or placing down walls or furniture, for example, cannot be undone, and items cannot be moved once they have been placed.

Random Genetics Challenge

The Random Genetics Challenge is a CAS challenge popularised by Keisyo in which the player creates two sims by randomising their genetic traits individually, such as their nose, chin and eyes, and then creates their child using the game’s “play with genetics” feature. The aim is to create a child who looks as normal and attractive as possible without changing their genetics.

Shell Challenge

The Shell Challenge is a build challenge popularised by Lilsimsie in which one player will create the ‘shell’ of a building, with walls but no other decorations, and other players will use the shell to create a build without changing any existing walls. It is a popular fan challenge among Youtube and Twitch creators, who will often make a shell for their fans to build on and may later tour shell challenge submissions on video.

Solid Colour Challenge

The Solid Colour Challenge is a CAS and build challenge popularised by Mr. Olkan in which every swatch used in a sim or a build must be a single colour. Variations on the challenge may involve trying to match a specific hue of a colour.

Toddler to Adult Challenge

The Toddler to Adult Challenge is a CAS challenge popularised by Elliandra in which the player creates a toddler and then ages them up to a young adult. The young adult will typically look strange or not like the player expected due to the way toddler genetics function in the game, and the aim of the challenge is to create a sim who looks cute as a toddler but as normal and attractive as possible as a young adult.

Ugly to Beauty Challenge

The Ugly to Beauty Challenge is a CAS challenge popularised by Miss Moxxi in which the player creates or downloads a sim that is as ugly or strange as possible, typically by maxing out the sliders to inhuman proportions. The player then alters the sim in CAS in order to make the sim look normal and attractive, but without being able to replace the sim’s features with presets.
