Created by Pan-chan in 1997, LELOLA was one of the first and biggest fansites for the popular anime shows broadcasting in North America. The site was updated daily with content like episode schedules and summaries, art galleries, cast lists, and wallpapers.

History

Pan-chan originally created her site through GoPlay.com, which hosted webpages for free; she chose the name "LELOLA" because her first choice for an account name was taken. This version of LELOLA was, according to Pan-chan, "was a piece of garbage." She learned HTML as she created a web shrine for The Power Rangers, and in 1999, she updated LELOLA with information about Sailor Moon and Pokémon. After moving to GeoCities, she redesigned the site, and once Digimon aired, she created a section to the show.

As LELOLA grew in content and popularity, Pan-Chan began to search for a new host. BulbaCenter.com agreed to host the site and in 2000 a new version of LELOLA opened. After a few months, the person who owned the servers for BulbaCenter, who Pan-chan knew as James, offered her LELOLA.com, which he paid for on the condition that Pan-chan post ads on the site. Excited by the possibility to have her own .com, she agreed, and then later also agreed to run another site that he owned, VGFF.net.

LELOLA.com and its affiliate, the popular Digimon site DigiExperience.com, were unexpectedly closed in 2002 when James ran away with the sites' profits. Unable to regain the domains, both sites move to a .net address. Pan-chan continued to update her site daily until 2006, and in 2008 she decided to put it on permanent hiatus. It still exists as an archived form for fans.[1]
