HPFanficTalk.com (HPFT) is a multifandom fic archive and forum with a focus on Harry Potter. The forums opened in June 2016 and the archive followed in October 2016. In the words of co-founder abhorsen.: "[The forum is] Harry Potter-themed (including a year-long house cup), but we talk about other fandoms, too, and the archive is multi-fandom/OF. We have a strong culture of support for other writers and feedback here, including a story help section, challenges, and reviewing events, so if you're a writer, you've come to the right place."[1]

It was created in response to the shutdown of the Harrypotterfanfiction.com forums in 2016. The archive is hosted on the efiction software, with a moderated queue. It has rules for allowed content. There is no quality requirement.

Archive Restrictions

The HPFT archive runs on a moderated queue system, which means all stories must be reviewed by a moderator before being posted. As of January 2018, there is no restriction on how many chapters may be added to the queue at one time.[2] This is not to police quality, but to ensure that fics are appropriately rated and have the necessary warnings. The ratings system is as follows:

A: Stories rated A should contain content appropriate for all readers, including children - i.e., they should require no reader advisories.

T: Stories rated T should contain content appropriate for teen readers and up. They may include limited swearing, sexual content, violence, and allusions to potentially sensitive material (including eating disorders, self-harm, and abuse) with some restrictions and appropriate reader advisories.

M: Stories rated M should contain content appropriate for mature readers. They may include significant violence, detailed sexual content, extensive profanity, and references to potentially sensitive material (including eating disorders, self-harm, and abuse) with some restrictions and appropriate reader advisories.[3]

There is a requirement that description of sexual activity may only make up 25% of the wordcount of a chapter. Additionally, some things are banned on the archive, including:[3]

  • Bestiality
  • Sexual content featuring characters under the age of 16
  • Pedophilia
  • Non-canonical incest
  • The glorification of suicide, self-harm, eating disorders, abuse and substance abuse.
  • RPF[4]

Due to copyright disputes, fanfics from these sources are banned on HPFT:[4]

Houses

The forums of HPFT are organised into the four Harry Potter Hogwarts houses: Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin. Members can nominate which house they wish to be in; there is no sorting system. They each have their own common room (subforum) accessible only by staff and house members, house activities and distinct cultures, often attributable to the general characteristics of the Hogwarts houses in canon but not always.
