Grindhouse was a self-contained Horror/Action/Thriller double feature co-directed by Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino and starring Rose McGowan and Kurt Russell. It contained two feature films (Rodriguez' Planet Terror and Tarantino's Death Proof, plus fake Movie Trailers directed by Rodriguez, Rob Zombie, Edgar Wright and Eli Roth). It was meant as a celebration of 1960s-1980s exploitation films. While the film was well-reviewed, it was not a commercial success, as many viewers did not understand the double-feature concept. However, it did spin off Machete.
Grindhouse consisted of eight sections:
- Machete: fake trailer directed by Robert Rodriguez
- Main Titles
- Planet Terror
- Werewolf Women of the SS: fake trailer directed by Rob Zombie (with an "Acuna Boys" fake Tex-Mex restaurant commercial attached)
- Don't: fake trailer directed by Edgar Wright
- Thanksgiving: fake trailer directed by Eli Roth
- Death Proof
- Closing credits.
Planet Terror was a Zombie movie about an epidemic caused by chemicals released from a military base. Death Proof was a car-chase/slasher movie with the car as the weapon.
