Do we have permission to use this? It's awesome! :D Could you maybe add a link to where it came from? --Doro 23:24, 1 March 2010 (UTC)

Er (facepalm) do we need permission? I shrunk it down from the original--should I shrink it still further? Yr. friendly wiki-idiot --Speranza 23:31, 1 March 2010 (UTC)
There has been discussion about this somewhere (I think it was on a talk page for a Pros zine that was archived online with the art and the article took art files from the online archived scans), but afaik there has been no clear rules from the committee yet whether the general grabbing that is done with small zine covers in this wiki (as that is common on all sorts of collector and book seller pages with small covers too), is being extended to online art. Personally I think it is not okay to archive online art here without permission that can be seen with just a click on the page where the artist displays their work, shrunk or not, especially as some are not happy with thumbnails of their images in the first place, as shrinking may make it look worse. But I've seen other opinions who think it is okay to grab art in lesser quality.--RatCreature 23:45, 1 March 2010 (UTC)
I don't know. :/ So far we don't have any kind of policy so we tried to play it safe with online art. It's not the same as taking pictures of a zine because online images will have pretty much the same format which could be seen as archiving without permission or competing with the original artwork (people will look at it but not be able to give feedback, etc.). I've made up my own rules here and am waiting for the official ones. :) I think the manip should be fine but would be better with a link and the other one should be maybe a bit smaller if we haven't asked for permission. Personally I tend to be more careful with drawings or paintings than with manips although I can't really say why. For example, for the artwork I added to On the Knob Training I asked both artists and Yue said we could use anything of hers in whatever format we liked. \o/ For The Crown of the Summer Court I took the vid banner the way it was but turned the fanart into really, really small thumbs and, eh, that's probably a bit too small. ^^° --Doro 00:14, 2 March 2010 (UTC)
You make a point I hadn't thought of--that reduced size/quality--which is what's needed for fair use!--might not be what the artist wants because it doesn't show the art to best advantage! *facepalm* I know the wikicomm has a draft of an image policy so I guess I'll wait for it--meanwhile, artists! I didn't mean anything except that I think your art is awesome! and the Wincest page needed pretty boys on it! /o\ Don't be mad!--Speranza 01:11, 2 March 2010 (UTC)
