Widowmaker/Sombra is a small Femslash pairing in the Overwatch fandom. It centres around Amélie Lacroix, also known as Widowmaker and Sombra.
Canon
Widowmaker and Sombra are both agents for Talon, though they have different reasons for joining the organisation. In an effort to murder Widowmaker's husband Gérard, Talon abducted and brainwashed her. They rewrote her mind and turned her into a cold-blooded assassin. She ended up killing her husband and joining Talon.[1]
Sombra is a notorious hacker who, while working with Talon, appears to have her own agenda. Despite this, Sombra "considers Reaper and Widowmaker as genuine friends, but the friendship is 'complicated.'"[citation needed]
Sombra's animated short, Infiltration, and the official comic Masquerade show both of them operating on the same Talon mission together.
Fandom
Widowmaker/Sombra is a smaller ship compared to the Overwatch femslash leaders such as Pharah/Mercy and Widowmaker/Tracer, yet generally accepted as a possible pairing that doesn't attract many Antis. Both characters work together in the Talon organization, yet both are more morally grey rather than truly evil: Widowmaker was brainwashed into working for them while Sombra seems to pursue her own goals. They share some banter in the game and display a common and popular contrast between their characters: The trickster-like Sombra manages to rouse annoyance in the usually emotionally cold and suppressed Widowmaker.
The respective voice actors of Sombra and Widowmaker, Carolina Ravassa and Chloé Hollings, have published several Youtube videos together, acknowledging the fan interest in their characters and even their fanworks.[2][3][4]
As of 25/10/2018, the Widowmaker/Sombra tag on AO3 lists 292 works[5], putting it ahead of older pairings like Lúcio/D.Va orZarya/Mei.
