Hoban Washburne, called Wash, is the pilot of the spaceship Serenity in the TV series Firefly. He also appeared in the movie Serenity, in which he died, and various comics. He was played by actor Alan Tudyk.
Wash plays with plastic dinosaurs, is not a good fighter but willing to fight when necessary, and is head over heels in love with his wife, Zoe Alleyne Washburne.

Wash is a very popular character in fandom, and his death in the movie is still a sore point for many fans (see reactions to the movie Serenity). Therefore a lot of creative fix-it fic was written.
