The comic V for Vendetta is the story of a vigilante, known only by the letter V, who uses questionable tactics in his quest to bring down the fascist government in control of of a 1980s, post-nuclear-war England. The comic features something of an ensemble cast, though V and his protege, Evey, are probably best described as the main characters.

The 2005 film updates the setting to a near-future England, changes the nuclear war to biological warfare, and narrows the focus to V and Evey. While some aspects of the story were changed significantly, others, such as Valerie Page's biography sequence, were left almost exactly the same.

Fandom

Most members of the fandom came to it from the film rather than the comic; as a consequence, the majority of fanworks are movie-based, though there are also comic-based works and works that blend both source materials. The primary pairing is V/Evey; Finch/Dominic is a reasonably popular slash ship, while Valerie/Ruth is the primary (and canon) femslash ship. Fanfiction, fanart, and vidding are all represented in the fandom.
