Uther Pendragon is the King of Camelot in the first three seasons of the BBC show Merlin while his son Arthur is still a prince. Uther has a fanatical hatred of magic and magic users because of their part in the death of his wife, Ygraine. Because of this, Merlin has to keep his magic secret from Arthur and the rest of the characters lest he be executed, and Uther's ward Morgana is not allowed to learn about her own magic. This backfires on everyone when Morgana learns about her magic and that she is more than Uther's ward.
Uther often appears as an obstacle in Merlin/Arthur fanfiction and vids and sometimes in fanart.
Uther/Morgana and Merlin/Uther are the most popular Uther pairings. Both are cross-generational pairings and sometimes involve Non-consensual sex.
Uther is played by Anthony Stewart Head, who also played Rupert Giles on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. This has attracted some Buffy fans to Merlin fandom.
