Editing Typos

Hey, sorry about changing that typo I saw in passing on a Talk/Discussion page; I fear copy-editing is something I do out of habit, at this point! Thanks for the warm welcome. --Heartinthemist (talk) 20:36, 8 August 2013 (UTC)

No worries, Heartinthemist. I have the same copy-edit habit, and at the same time, probably add many opportunities to Fanlore for others to practice this drive. The main thing though: so happy you're here. --Mrs. Potato Head (talk) 01:02, 9 August 2013 (UTC)

Editing Question

Mrs. Potato Head: Quick question. I went to update the KiScon (Star Trek zine) page to include the 2012 edition, only to find I don't have editing rights. I spent well over an hour getting it all formatted - is there someone I can send it to, to insert for me? amandawarrington (talk) 13:23, 10 January 2013 (UTC)

Have you been able to edit other things? If so, you should be able to edit this. If not, I wonder what the problem is? Hmmmm. In any case, you can send it to me, and I'll add it. My email is on my userpage. If you have trouble, let me know! --Mrs. Potato Head (talk) 19:00, 10 January 2013 (UTC)

new K/S fanfiction template

So I looked at the K/S fanfiction category, and lo, it was enormous. It occurred to me that at some point down the line we might want to move Star Trek fanfiction pages out of the main fanfiction category, since they now represent half the pages in the category. With that in mind, I created a K/S template: Template:FanfictionStarTrekTOSKS. Let me know if it suits your needs. I didn't rename any of the fields, but I prepopulated the fandom field so you wouldn't have to type in the same thing over and over. Let me know if there's any other standard text you'd find useful. If the template looks okay, I'll start updating the existing pages. That should keep me out of trouble for a while.--æþel (talk) 22:44, 18 January 2013 (UTC)

Yes, quite enormous. I passed 1000 about an hour ago. It's put me in disambiguation hell, which I hope I'm handling okay. It's a weak spot of mine...
A field that I was thinking MIGHT be useful is "medium." One can put in print or online. But that hasn't been too onerous to add in the body of the article. (Plus, I'm not about to go back and edit all 1000, one at a time, at this point.) I also think the fanfiction templates should be as similar as possible, and there frankly, just aren't going to be as many comments for other non-K/S single fanworks in print zines, not like this anyway. The K/Sers are uniquely prolific with their comments and have been for decades. I'm conflicted on whether a "medium" field is a good idea or not.
Thank you, Aethel, for helping with this project. --Mrs. Potato Head (talk) 23:00, 18 January 2013 (UTC)
Since this is a zine-related project, do you want a "First printed in X zine" type field? I think the "medium" of fanfiction is "text"--it can be printed in a zine and then distributed online, so a field for print vs online doesn't seem very useful. --æþel (talk) 23:09, 18 January 2013 (UTC)
I don't want that "first printed in" field as, while it would be useful for me right now as that's what I'm working on, it isn't necessarily the default for others. I think, let's just leave the template fields as they are. It's been working fine so far. --Mrs. Potato Head (talk) 23:14, 18 January 2013 (UTC)

Fan fiction labeling

The first place I ever saw any stories labeled was online in the mid-1990s. Even the sort of pre- or quasi-slash I've spoken to you about before from the early 80s, I can't remember any labeling. Maybe they had it by that time and that one zine I saw just never used it? Who started it and when? --KTJ (talk) 06:08, 22 April 2013 (UTC)

Going Out of Town

I'll be without internet access of any sort from July 4-21. Going backpacking in Banff. --Mrs. Potato Head (talk) 21:31, 2 July 2013 (UTC)

Seperis revert

Thanks for welcoming Heartinthemist -- I was just about to do it myself! Wasn't the Seperis talk page you reverted the one for the mainspace article, not a user page? I'm confused... Espresso Addict (talk) 00:35, 9 August 2013 (UTC)

The revert I thought did was on this page, changing Meg's "it's" to "its" http://fanlore.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:Seperis&action=history. Did I misunderstand? (Always possible)... --Mrs. Potato Head (talk) 00:40, 9 August 2013 (UTC)
Ah, looks like I misunderstood your comment on Heartinthemist's talk -- I read it as don't edit user or user talk pages at all, rather than don't edit other people's content there. Sorry! Being particularly stupid, atm... Espresso Addict (talk) 00:51, 9 August 2013 (UTC)
No worries. Sounds like I was the one who was unclear. In any case, I'm thrilled that Heartinthemist is here! --Mrs. Potato Head (talk) 00:58, 9 August 2013 (UTC)

Offline?

MPH may be offline for few days with intermittent email access. Back on Weds Aug 14? --MeeDee (talk) 18:47, 10 August 2013 (UTC)

Category Advice

There is enough for a new category, plus I have a rough list of about 50 more candidates I'd like to add, for "Interviews With Fans." I'd also like to combine "Oral Histories" in this category . How best to name it? "Oral Histories and Interviews WIth Fans"? Something else? --Mrs. Potato Head (talk) 12:49, 17 August 2013 (UTC)

I like your Category: Interviews by Fans.--MeeDee (talk) 15:21, 20 August 2013 (UTC)
Thanks. It's much needed. The interview pages are lot of fun to do -- so much information, a veritable feast of links, and each one is a snapshot in fannish time. Right now, I have about 140 interviews located, and have about 35 articles done. If you have any links to more, let me know, and I'll put them on my userpage to do list. My head swims with category/template info, but I'm going to find a way to make the oral histories more visible with this too, as there is much, much overlap (and in many ways, are the same thing). --Mrs. Potato Head (talk) 15:52, 20 August 2013 (UTC)

Interviews

Just a heads up, the OTW Journal is called Transformative Works and Cultures (short TWC), not Journal of Transformative Works, so the interview pages should be named "Transformative Works and Cultures Interview with X" or "TWC Interview with X". :-) --Doro (talk) 21:59, 6 September 2013 (UTC)

Thank you! I'll change it on that page. Thank you, too, for linking up the Chronicle X interviews to the site page. I'll be adding these interviews as I go, but wanted to get my road map all sorted out so my head didn't explode. ;-) --Mrs. Potato Head (talk) 22:04, 6 September 2013 (UTC)
As always, I'm in awe of your energy, passion and enthusiasm for all things fannish history. :D I've fould a few more links:
Thank you, Doro. I'll add them. The Xena ones will be hard for me, as I don't know much about the fandom nor its vocab so keep a sharp eye on me there, yes? I'm also looking for some Forever Knight interviews, some slash SH ones, and some slash Sentinel ones as those are very gen-heavy so far. Plus, any other fandom that liked to talk its creators (MUNCLE, I'm talking to you!). Another gap is with fan artists. Also, any chance you can figure out how to get into these: http://augusta.otago.ac.nz/~sis/interviews.html (organized by the Sisters in Smut: http://web.archive.org/web/20031029084050/http://augusta.otago.ac.nz/~sis/ ) (http://web.archive.org/web/20030715172227/http://sis-fic.50megs.com/interviews.html) So far, I've had no luck. --Mrs. Potato Head (talk) 22:35, 6 September 2013 (UTC)
I remembered another site: we get IDEAS! with Popslash author interviews. :) --Doro (talk) 22:56, 7 November 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for your welcome!

Hi. (I hope this is the right place to reply.) I mainly updated the Epic Recs page, because I became a mod a few months ago and was adding my name to the list, but I thought I'd add a little information from our profile at the same time. Anyway, thanks for your welcome!!

You're welcome, Mothlights. I link to Epic Recs when I can. It's got great information, and a great history. --Mrs. Potato Head (talk) 18:48, 24 September 2013 (UTC)

Sorry I didn't put my name. Was just adding when you replied. You're fast! :D --Mothlights (talk)

Fandom Stats & Fanlore intro

Eep, just realized I never replied to your last message, now weeks back. Thanks for the warm welcome and the helpful tips; it all makes sense, and if I have more questions, I'll try to ask them in the appropriate place! :) --Destinationtoast (talk) 18:10, 8 October 2013 (UTC)

No worries! I'm just so glad you're here. :) --Mrs. Potato Head (talk) 18:32, 8 October 2013 (UTC)

Fan Interviews

I'm having trouble with the organization and categorizing the fan interviews I've been adding -- this part is not my forte. I have about 640 interview pages done, and have about 200 more to go. Can folks double-check to make sure the pages, categories, redirects, and such are correct on ALL the "finished" pages? And, set it up so as I move into Xena and Hercules interviews, a topic I've not started yet, are done correctly. I feel like I'm a bit all over the map, and bumbling about. --Mrs. Potato Head (talk) 00:52, 13 November 2013 (UTC)

I fixed a few things. Everything looks ok for the moment.--æþel (talk) 04:06, 13 November 2013 (UTC)
