Whoo hoo! Great to see you here editing. On the IT pages you have started 2 subpages. What is the plan for the Fanworks subpage? Link to every fanwork? Popular favorites? --MeeDee (talk) 23:44, 4 December 2019 (UTC)

Hi MeeDee ^_^ Nice to see you! Mhm... IT is my life, so I'm looking forward to filling it out as much as possible. Mind you, I've just been put to a standstill cause I don't think Fanlore has spoiler/trigger walls like Discord does. And unfortunately I'm sensitive as all get out! And someone just added something not-great so we'll see. I *do* want to add a link to every fanwork. At least the ones that aren't behind a Login wall (like pixiv). For now, I'm just going to be linking to artists, and the appropriate fandom tags. Then I'll get more detailed as I go. *If* I can keep working, that is. I'll let others decide on the Popular Favorites, which may be more usefully linked on the actual IT page. I don't really like the idea that just because something is more popular, it's 'better' so I'd rather not be the one who decides. Thanks for checking in :)) Do you prefer I just refer to you as MeeDee here? [eta: sorry, almost forgot to tag you. idk how notifs work, so I hope you didn't see multiple edits to this or anything] -- Jacksbrak (talk) 23:52, 4 December 2019 (UTC)
Welcome to Fanlore, Jacksbrak! If you'd like to familiarise yourself more with how the wiki works and what kind of things we record, I recommend checking out Fanlore:About and the Frequently Asked Questions. Since you seem to be familiar with wiki editing, you might not need our New Visitor Portal, but it has links out to other helpful pages about how Fanlore is organised.
Regarding spoilers, it's true that Fanlore is generally not a spoiler-free space. We have a Spoiler Warning template, but what's considered to be a "spoiler" is quite subjective and so not all users will employ it. We don't, by and large, have trigger walls or other methods of hiding content, though there are warnings for certain types of images.
It's worth noting that Fanlore places heavy emphasis on fandom-related content (fanworks, fan activities, fan communities, etc.) and not on canon, so in general articles shouldn't go into too much detail about the contents of canon anyway. I hope that helps! -- enchantedsleeper (talk) 09:46, 5 December 2019 (UTC)
User:Enchantedsleeper I understand... I barely scratched the tip of the iceberg on canon, but I see that it's too much. And I was going to build the pages up gradually. Canon is just the first subject on every character page. But I'm just going to leave it and someone can delete what they don't want. Thank you! Jacksbrak (talk) 17:35, 5 December 2019 (UTC)
Oh, I meant that pages on Fanlore shouldn't have too many spoilers in them for you to encounter - since those are more likely to occur in canon-related content. Building up pages slowly is fine! I hope you do stick around and continue to edit the wiki ♥️ -- enchantedsleeper (talk) 18:13, 6 December 2019 (UTC)
enchantedsleeper Oh!! Sure, that makes sense ^_^ Thank you. I think maybe Fanlore isn't the best place for me after all... So I'm attempting to make my own site to suit the style of information collection I need, but once I get things more together, I'd be happy to share with Fanlore, to make filling out the IT and Stranger Things pages easier - if someone so desires. Thank you so much, again, for your help and kindness! -- Jacksbrak (talk) 21:30, 6 December 2019 (UTC)

File Sources

Hey Jacksbrak, I wanted want to point out an issue I've noticed with your file uploads. The Source line should be filled with a link to where the image was originally posted, not just the site. It's important to give proper credit when reuploading images, especially if it's fanart, and it's generally good to have citations. Even if the original post has been deleted, a link to a reblog is still helpful. I don't know if you still have the links for files you've already made, but please keep this in mind in the future. —caes (talk) 19:14, 13 January 2020 (UTC)

Sorry! I can provide a link to my reblog, yes. Jacksbrak (talk) 19:16, 13 January 2020 (UTC)

May I also clarify... is Date for the date the image was created? And if we don't have access to that date, should we put the date of when it was uploaded to Fanlore? Jacksbrak (talk) 19:22, 13 January 2020 (UTC)

Date is for the date the image is posted by the creator. If you don't know the date, you can leave it blank and someone else might be able to use the link to figure it out. —caes (talk) 19:30, 13 January 2020 (UTC)

"No Official Cover Art" Image

About the 8tracks fanmixes you've been recording and the galleries for the mix covers you've made. For the fanmixes that use the "No Official Cover Art" image because the fanart was used without permission, I don't see why using that image is necessary? Those mixes can easily be listed as text and links, with just the title, creator, and description, and save space. — caes (talk) 22:16, 30 January 2020 (UTC)

For the sake of presentation uniformity, and also because I left comments on those mixes, asking if they did get permission, and some were responding, that yes they did. So it was kind of a placeholder. But I'll move them to text-only positions. Jacksbrak (talk) 22:31, 30 January 2020 (UTC)

Fanlore Bingo 2020

Hi, Jacksbrak! I'm really excited to see you taking part in the Fanlore Bingo Challenge for 2020 \o/ I just wanted to drop you a line because there was previously a small error in our templates for the two Bingo cards in that they were initially missing the "2020" at the top, and it looks like you may have grabbed those versions before they were corrected. So sorry!

If you add "2020" to the top of each template next to "Fanlore Beginner/Expert Bingo" (so the top line looks like this: {{Fanlore Beginner Bingo 2020 and {{Fanlore Expert Bingo 2020 ) that should make sure your template links are showing up in the list of 2020 participants and not 2019 ones.

Sorry again for the issue, and let me know if you have any questions (about this or any part of the challenge)! :3 I look forward to seeing your edits for the challenge!

enchantedsleeper (talk) 17:14, 30 May 2020 (UTC)

enchantedsleeper Hi! Thank you so much for letting me know! Are we allowed to fill multiple slots from the same Fanlore page, or should we aim for variety? Jacksbrak (talk) 05:58, 2 June 2020 (UTC)
Hi, Jacksbrak! Yes, that's perfectly fine :) It's about tasks, rather than pages - so it's fine to fulfil the tasks in whatever way you can. -- enchantedsleeper (talk) 08:09, 2 June 2020 (UTC)

Badges!

Hey, Jacksbrak! Congratulations on getting Bingo! on your Expert Bingo card and earning your first badge! Here it is:

Expert bingo 2020.png

Keep going to earn all five, and have fun! --enchantedsleeper (talk) 22:01, 2 June 2020 (UTC)

enchantedsleeper, hee, uhm thank you but I don't think I did complete it? Unless you're counting edits that I didn't count and should have? I haven't added any <ref> references or anything like that. Although I do need to add one on Ardnieu University, but got too tired :p If you're counting things I was supposed to though, then thank you ^_^ Otherwise I won't put the badge up until I have my card all green. ♥ --Jacksbrak (talk) 18:47, 3 June 2020 (UTC)
Hey Jacksbrak - you did earn this! :D The badge is for getting "Bingo!" on your card which is three squares in a row! We have a separate badge for "Blackout!" which is getting all the squares on your card. So, I will award you a separate badge for that when you get there! ;) But for now, enjoy your badge! --enchantedsleeper (talk) 23:03, 3 June 2020 (UTC)
enchantedsleeper, >_< omg lmao that tickled me and surprised me that I forgot what bingo was... Thanks for being so patient and sweet! haha... I got the blackouts now ^_^ Hope you're having fun too! --Jacksbrak (talk) 01:09, 4 June 2020 (UTC)

Disambiguating Fan Pages

Hi Jacksbrak, great work on creating so many fan pages. I wanted to point out one issue, before you go too much further. By creating fan pages using fans first name only, it's very likely there is another fan/character/person with the same name. Even when there is not already a disambiguation page for a first name, it's sometimes better to create one and then link to the fan pages you're creating. I'm thinking of the pages Evan, Hazel, Leopold & Julia that you created recently. They would be better suited as disambiguation pages (I know of characters/other fans with those names). The page Meghan could also redirect to a disambiguation page we already have, Megan.

Over the weekend, I'll start talk page discussions about moving those pages. I just wanted to let you know so that you can take this into account as you continue to work on fan pages. Thanks --Auntags (talk) 11:49, 24 July 2020 (UTC)

Aw, okay! That's a good point. I was wondering, but just figured the rule was that if you make a disambiguation page, you first check for redirects to edit. I absolutely don't mind fixing all that as I do not wish to create excess work for others. I have recorded a list of all redirect pages I've made, so it will be relatively easy for me to correct them. But if you prefer another fix them, please show them to my user page so they can see the redirects and how they're currently set up? User:Jacksbrak#Projects#Created Pages#Fan Page The sub-bullet points redirect to the primary bullet point. (just as a side note, this is my process for de-cluttering the other pages. I read that we are allowed to index fanworks on fan pages so I'm trying to fix what others disliked on pages I've worked on by corralling works on fan pages instead. hope that's up to par. I'm trying really hard; I promise!) - Jacksbrak (talk) 11:59, 24 July 2020 (UTC)
That is impressive. I'll admit I just use the Click here for related articles on Fanlore link - so clicking that for Julia, gives all the pages that link to that page including redirects. See here for Julia. There are a few options for disambiguating fan pages which is why we usually open a talk page discussion first. But if you see an option that suits these fan pages, you're more than welcome to propose it on their talk pages. I'm happy to start the discussion and move pages, but I probably won't get chance until the weekend. Happy editing! --Auntags (talk) 12:08, 24 July 2020 (UTC)
Oh gosh, you're right... There are some of them still on other pages as examples, so I'll definitely need to double check the related articles as well. Should I just work on the ones that are more 'common' names, or do you want me to disambiguate even names like Ham? -Jacksbrak (talk) 12:14, 24 July 2020 (UTC)
Oh just the common first names. If someone thinks Ham or other pages need a pseud, they can raise it on the talk page. I only mentioned the pages where I am aware of other fans or characters with the same first name. --Auntags (talk) 12:16, 24 July 2020 (UTC)
Okay, fixed :)) thank you! - Jacksbrak (talk) 13:21, 24 July 2020 (UTC)

Request?

Jacksbrak, regarding the fan pages you are adding: Would you start adding some internal links to Fanlore on them? To tropes? To other topics and subject? To glossary terms? Add fan comments? So that these pages are tied in with the wiki more than they are now? Because right now, these pages function more as a fan directory with only external links. --MPH (talk) 20:48, 29 July 2020 (UTC)

Yeah, I fully intend on doing that, but I was receiving complaints that I'd added too much information to ship pages and stuff like that, so since we're allowed to index fanworks on fan pages, I began working on de-cluttering the other pages. So for now I will not be adding internal links, apart from occasionally linking to artist pages as examples when I'm winding down on the clean-up process. But eventually I will be adding genres for everything, which means internal links to tropes and such. -Jacksbrak (talk) 20:54, 29 July 2020 (UTC)
Oh, good. I'm glad that those pages will be fleshed out to have internal links and commentary. --MPH (talk) 12:23, 30 July 2020 (UTC)
