I've been lurking and passively involved in various fandoms since the late 90s. The tried and true method of "read fic first, then consume the source material" is basically how I've gotten into most fandoms, because frankly, it's the only way to go. I first wrote fic in 2001 or 2002, in the Harry Potter fandom, but it was terrible so I destroyed it and all evidence linking it to me.

After that, the next fics I wrote were circa 2004 or so.
