This time tomorrow (where were we?) is a Steve/Tony story by dorcas_gustine. It was written for the Captain America/Iron Man 2009 Big Bang. The artwork for this story is by Melisus.[1]
Summary: Tony goes to see Wanda, and suddenly Steve is alive and there are Skrulls! Or maybe Tony is just going crazy. Nothing happens in this fic, until the very end. Seriously. There's a lot of talking, mostly at inopportune moments, Tony's views on the acceptable gifts to give people are slightly different from everyone else's and he spends more time than would seem necessary being (half-)naked. What else is new?
The story was translated by Leoriel for the Russian Marvel Big Bang in 2013[2] and sahaminiloki made an illustration for the translation.[3]
In 2013, This time tomorrow (where were we?) was included in a Steve/Tony custom zine that caused controversy because it used self-publishing venues without author permission.
Recs and Reviews
Avengers post-Civil War fic; Steve/Tony, Tony gets it all wrong and goes back in time to try to get it right. AWESOME[4]
Long, plotty, and deals with a ton of dangling threads. Dorky re-wrote things for the better while still maintaining the proper tone, and facing up to all sorts of emotional fall-out from Civil War. There are some points where the pacing is a bit odd, and I feel like the ending is a bit abrupt, but well worth it.[5]
Why you should read it: Old-school Thursday is starting to look a lot like Marvel 616 day, but I can’t help it. The Steve/Tony feelings that came out of Civil War were huge, and the fics that resulted were epic, and there were a bunch of them. Elspethdixon and Seanchai’s brilliant multi-chap is one, but I recced a fic by them last week, so today I’m reccing dorcas_gustine, and this fic is arguably the best of the lot. It’s on a ton of rec lists, and for good reason, so there’s a very good chance you’ve read this before. If you haven’t, do it. It’s amazing. Seriously, there are lines in this that are just— they encapsulate Steve/Tony in a line, and this fic is long, so there are a ton of them. Just— this is them. This is them. If you are in this fandom, you need to read this fic. If you already have, read it again. If you haven’t… what are you waiting for?[6]
This is an epically long fic by a wonderful author. Anytime someone can press a reset button and make something like the Civil War and the Skrull invasion end well instead of horribly, it's a Very Good Thing and that's what Tony Stark does in this story.[7]
