The Thieves and Liars Awards were Hanson fanfic awards run by Bethany from 2009 to 2011. The goal was to be inclusive to all genres. The following explanation and history was given when the third round began:

The name comes from the Hanson song Got A Hold On Me. I just thought it was a cute, slightly derisive, way to refer to the people who write fanfic.

The first version of the site launched on September 14, 2009 and the round ran until October 25. I had a few snags along the way, but overall I was really happy with how it went. The second round ran from March 11 to April 25, 2010. I ended up scheduling more time into than I really needed and had lots of ties that took quite some time to break. Again, like the first round, I learned more and more about how to run awards -- and how not to!

My original plan was to run the awards biannually; however, that quickly went by the wayside. I found myself too caught up in running Boomerang to do a proper fall round that wouldn't interfere with other people's challenges. So I put the site on hiatus for Fall 2010. Whether I'll go back to the twice a year plan or stick with only once a year, I haven't yet decided. I'll just play it by ear. [1]
