The Wire is a television show that ran for five seasons on HBO based on the book Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets by David Simon, which was also the inspiration for the television series Homicide: Life on the Street. Set in Baltimore, the first season focussed on street-level drug trade and police attempts to control it. Later seasons expanded to include other aspects of Baltimore life. It shares several actors with its HBO-mate, the notorious Oz, and is rife with the kind of characters and relationships that often inspire fic. Despite this, it never gained much of a fandom presence, and most stories reside at Yuletide.
