"The Vulcan Survivor" by Lucia Palude is a 43 page very original story. I won't give the whole plot away here. Basically Kirk and Spock find a Vulcan male about 17 on a deserted planet who for 16 or so years has been raised by wolves (or animals similar to our wolves) and actually acts like a wolf. He is named Skeron, and Spock considers the feral boy his responsibility.

I really had trouble with what happened/was talked about at the top of page 34, but other than that the story was okay. At times the dialogue and vocabulary were such that I really didn't think Spock and Kirk sounded like themselves.

If one is hunting for a really original story, then this one will satisfy. As for me, I had a little trouble integrating the two parts of the story: the problem of Skeron, the Vulcan wolf-boy, and the way Spock and Kirk finally become lovers. It was almost as if there were two stories here, and the connection between them was very slight.
