The Room with a Computer is an X-Men/Harry Potter crossover fanfic story by Minisinoo in which Scott Summers joins the Hogwarts staff as the new Muggles Studies Professor.
Summary
Hogwarts has a new professor of Muggle studies -- who happens to be a Muggle. Minerva McGonagall is skeptical, Hermione is curious, Ron is jealous, Ginny is impressed, and Harry has questions. Arthur Weasley finally gets a plane ride.
Author's Notes
- Harry Potter: This tale assumes events in Book 6 (and is consanguineous with them) up till Christmas. Naturally, the events depicted herein didn't occur, but nothing in this story directly contradicts Book 6, so while it's mildly AU, it's not entirely outside canon.
- X-Men movies: It'd be good to have seen X-Men 2 and know what a mutant is; other comics knowledge optional. Events in X2 occurred five months before this story begins. Uses nothing from X-Men 3 (except a blue Beast).
- ON TIMING: HBP takes place 1996/97; X-Men 2 early 2000s. Yet as the Wizarding World seems less tied to the mid-90s than X-Men 2 to post 9-11 events, I've moved the HP world forward in time to the early 2000s. Thus, some of the items discussed herein would not have existed in 1997. I'm well aware of that and ask readers to roll with it.[1]

Reception
"This is a crossover with X-men, which I’m not familiar with, so I didn’t know who “Scott” is, but I know the author so figured I was in for a fun ride, and I wasn’t disappointed. This is an ensemble piece more than anything else, even if Hermione and Harry are prominently featured, but I enjoyed seeing Scott’s interactions with the Harry Potter characters and the insights he had into them. I found one scene with him and Pansy and Draco particularly interesting. And Arthur finally taking a plane ride? Made of win!"[1]
I like The Room With A Computer, which is a crossover with the X-Men movieverse and has Cyclops as the Muggle Studies teacher. It's a pretty low-key fic, not too much happening... but totally worth it for the character interactions, AND for the epilogue where Arthur Weasley gets a ride in the X-Jet and is just as ecstatic about it as you'd expect[2]
I stumbled upon this by happy accident before I saw any of the X-Men movies. It is so in character on all parts – Scott, Harry, Hermione, Dumbly, Xavier, even Draco Malfoy and Arthur Weasley. It’s fun, fanciful, and just the right amount of everything. And I love the plane![3]
