This is another cover.

The Awakening is a het Beauty and the Beast (TV) 149-page anthology. It contains fiction and poetry by Helen Pettigrew, Anne Simpson, and Janis McCavity.

"The Awakening" contains three interior art pieces by SAM. It also has song lyrics and, in a fairly common practice with Beauty and the Beast (TV) zines (which echoed the show), reprints of non-fannish "mainstream" poets such as Ranier Maria Rilke.

From an ad: "These stories continue from the last episode of the 3rd season. 3rd-season characters are included but the stories focus on a return of Catherine. Rating PG."

From the Editorial

What started out as a cathartic exercise has become an exercise of the vanities. Yes, we really wanted to see if three government employees with M.A.'s could produce something romantic, sensual and literate. I am not including the ability to proofread or manage a word processor without an automatic speller in the list of my accomplishments.

This will be a one-time effort (or so I say as I sit here penniless). We will continue to write stories in the hope that there will be "better writers when there are better readers" to quote a favourite author.

You will see that for the most part, we have decided to use "Canadian" spellings and our names have changed to protect the guilty.

The rating -- well, how do you censor B & B? We have tried to eliminate the "ing" words as in "throbbing" and "panting" but these are love stories! Let's put it this way -- PG 13 on the premise that it was some of those thirteen-year olds with their desire for violence, action and blood, running CBS who put our best show out of business!

The stories are third-season continuations. As two authors did not see the "lost" episodes there are some variations on the development of Diana's and Joe's characters in relation to Vincent and one story rather neatly wraps up all loose ends.

The stories keep our dreams alive -- may your dreams be as lovely as the one we had for three years and may your awakening be filled with light and hope.

Reactions and Reviews

Three stories mainly concerned with Catherine's return. Some poetry. In "Against the Dying of the Light," by BJS, amnesiac Catherine resurfaces from Switzerland. Also fiction by Pettigrew, Anne Simpson, Janis McCavity, and assorted reprinted poems and song lyrics. [1]
