Talk:Stargate Atlantis Season 4

Not to be monomaniacal, but query whether John/Teyla actually counts as a jossed/abandoned ship? I mean, as completely ludicrous and implausible as it would be that a full year and a half later, we still wouldn't know in canon whether Teyla and Kanaan are being practical and raising together the baby that was the result of a short-lived nostalgic hookup or consider themselves to be married and the loves of each other's lives...that is, in fact, the case. Hard to say that any ship that gets a fantasy-dinner-for-two-by-candlelight ("Search and Rescue") is fully abandoned by the show, especially with Flanigan's remarks that John's reaction to Teyla's pregnancy was partially driven by jealousy. But maybe the standard for "jossed/abandoned" is more lenient than I know? --saraht 06:34, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

Well, it's abandoned now in the sense that any hints/moments there may have been never actually went anywhere. Anything else is speculation. But I don't think it's jossed/abandoned in season four, because there was still a whole season where something could have happened. I'm not quite sure how the categories work anyway. --Kyuuketsukirui 06:58, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
Sure, if the standard is just "It never happened on the show before canon was closed" (assuming canon is closed...it's not clear to me how likely the movies actually are) then after season five it's "abandoned," but I agree it's not definitive in S4. Are we going to have John/Rodney listed as "jossed/abandoned" in S5 because of Keller? I guess I'm just curious as to what the standard is. (It's hard to argue with "character is dead/left the show in a permanent fashion" listings, and I can buy "character has definitely gotten seriously involved with someone else" if it's applied even-handedly, but otherwise this seems like a problematic category. Shippers will always see the possibilities...) --saraht 07:53, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
I don't think the category makes sense as a bullet point here, not without explaination as John/Teyla and John/Elizabeth are both still going in fanfiction--in fact, in season five, there's a contingent of John/Elizabeth fans that believes that the 'medic' referred to in vegas was, in fact, Elizabeth, which gave them even more canon to work from. So I think we should just take that out. --rache 16:36, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
I wouldn't consider John/Rodney a jossed or abandoned ship because it was never going to happen in the first place. But then some people actually thought it could (there's even a crazy-ass petition to make it canon in the supposedly upcoming movie), so idk tinhats. I would probably just leave it as fanon and canon ships, with no subcategories. Canon ships would be relationships that actually happened (Rodney/Katie, Rodney/Keller, Teyla/Kanaan) or those that were more than just subtext but they never got together (Ronon/Keller). --Kyuuketsukirui 11:05, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

Proposal for Deletion?

I noticed that this page was proposed for deletion in September 2018, but there hasn't yet been any discussion about it on this Talk page. There seems to be some fannish potential for the page, but I'm not familiar with the fandom, so I can't say categorically whether it's necessary or not. Would anyone else like to weigh in?

I also went to see if we had any other similar pages (i.e. pages for other Stargate Atlantis seasons), and found Stargate Atlantis Season 2, which has the "sandbox" template suggesting that the information be incorporated into another page. Do we know if that might have happened since the template was added in 2011? Should we propose that page for deletion or take any other action there? --enchantedsleeper 18:03, 17 February 2019 (UTC)

I think it has enough fannish content to be kept. I can see the value of having a "season x" reaction page for larger fandoms. The reactions to a specific season might overwhelm a fandom page, especially if the canon created a broad and diverse response amongst the fans. However, I would suggest that these types of pages might be best as subpages??? (don't know how/when to use subpagess). While it could could use additional material, once that is added we could use it as a "Best Practice" example of what do do when a TV season makes fans go wild MeeDee (talk) 17:14, 10 March 2019 (UTC)
I noticed the template was added in 2018, almost two years ago. Can I delete the notice? I posted the template clean up, maybe that helps. SecurityBreach (talk) 06:40, 14 August 2020 (UTC)
