Author's identity

The mystery is solved at last! :) It appears that "Tara" has finally re-emerged from her internet silence and posted to her Fictionpress account. Following this, someone managed to find her personal tumblr and so outed her identity. My question is, would any additions regarding the latest My Immortal news violate Fanlore's Identity Protection policy? She has made no attempts to deny that she is the author, and has responded to various asks about My Immortal, revealing her own personal thoughts on its popularity. It also appears that "Tara" was planning to reveal her identity anyway - as she is now officially writing a memoir regarding My Immortal and her life. Anyway, these BuzzFeed articles explain it better than I can:

Anyway, I'm mainly just bringing this news to people's attention. My Immortal is an important aspect of fanfiction, and this latest news doesn't seem to be covered on the page yet. Fitzaby (talk) 15:55, 7 September 2017 (UTC)

    • Actually I updated this with a link to the Christo story a couple of weeks ago.

Ok, even more news and controversy. Rose Christo has deactivated her Tumblr and Twitter account and has canceled the publication of the My Immortal memoir. Her real brother also apparently spoke up online and branded her a liar. It still is likely that she is actually the author though. But, woah, the mystery of the fic is a complicated tale.

Would it be better to move the coverage of speculation about the author to the specific Tara Gilesbie page, or is it all central enough to the fic that it needs to be covered in full here? If we moved it to the Tara page an overview of that situation would remain on this page. --caes (talk) 11:06, 13 October 2020 (UTC)

make clearer?

Could someone tweak this sentence so that it is clearer? I got lost in in about three fourths of the way through it. "The presumed author, Tara Gilesbie, makes no pretense that she herself is not Ebony Way." --MPH (talk) 12:43, 14 October 2018 (UTC)

Categories question

Why is this fic in Category:Scandals instead of Category:Fandom Occurrences? --Auntags (talk) 21:31, 22 June 2020 (UTC)

New Section ?

I'm considering adding a new section about the mysteries associated with this fic. Just the main ones (that are kind of connected to one another) -- was it real? was it hacked and who deleted it? I don't see this section going into detail on the evidence, but been an summary of different theories fans have. If I do this then the intro will be pared down and part of the style section might be included in the discussion of theories. That's why I'm starting a discussion first, to make sure there are no objections. Also, I'm not aware of any fanwork pages that currently have a theory section. (I've fallen down a bit of a rabbit hole (again), and have a lot of recent fan comments about the appeal of My Immortal theories that can be added to the comments section) --Auntags (talk) 19:58, 15 October 2020 (UTC)

The theories should be included on this page, so I think this page could definitely have a theory section. Maybe put it in the "Reaction" section, if it's not going to be really long. I was going to edit the intro and move more of it into the page's body, but would you rather I didn't since you have plans for it? --caes (talk) 00:55, 16 October 2020 (UTC)
Nope, go ahead. I'm still not sure what I'm doing. I do like your idea of putting info on fan theories within the Reaction/Reception section! --Auntags (talk) 17:17, 16 October 2020 (UTC)
I added a lot to the Reception section, including fan theories. I'm not going to touch the intro just yet. I'll take a break and look over the page with fresh eyes in a few days. People should of course feel free to make any changes to the Reception or fan theories sections!--Auntags (talk) 10:59, 17 October 2020 (UTC)
