Could anyone with a deeper understanding if this discussion evaluate the accuracy of my summary? No idea if it helps the equally clueless; but I was all ?_? and went to go read up on all the 4+ threads associated with this discussion. Also -- shouldn't the page be at Id Vortex? Could a gardener please move this page? --lian 12:37, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

I think it's not so much "consciously and constructively negotiating the edges" as it's jumping right in and making literature work right there. The edges are where profic usually shies away or sometimes constructively negotiates, but fanfic goes much, much further and does it well.--Doro 12:52, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
I'm not sure I have a deeper understanding, and it's been years since I read that meta, but I understood this mostly as writing directly to push sexual and narrative kink buttons and not disguise that. Actually I always thought it was just a more "academic" way to say "kink" (in the broader fannish meaning of a long list of story types and devices, not in the narrow sense) or "emo-porn" and all the slang terms fans have for this.--Ratcreature 13:19, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
Eh, that happens if one does not watch the talk page *glum* Heh, I agree re. kinky writing -- in the fannish sense :)
Doro, would you mind rewriting that bit? Or should I try and give it a go? --lian 13:45, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

Ellen's quotes about "we all" this and "we all" that can't be helped, but I changed some wording in the article to clarify that this is just one way (her way) of writing and not "the" fannish way. --Kyuuketsukirui 13:23, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

Oh, of course -- good you caught that! --lian 13:45, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
