I like this name and sub-page, so I linked from the parent Role-Playing Game text. --Msilverstar 04:39, 30 November 2008 (UTC)

This page could really use a separate subsection about Livejournal-style RP. Fandom has created a form and subculture of RP pretty unique compared to how it's done on the rest of the Internet. -Loren Leah 03:25, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

There may be overlap or conflict with my old Celebrity RPG page, not quite sure what to do about that. --msilverstar 07:26, 25 July 2010 (UTC)

So I think this page covers what fans who "RP" are actually talking about? Except they don't call it this. They just call it "RP". Does anyone know more?--aethel (talk) 22:19, 17 April 2017 (UTC)

Yeah, "RP" is this type of roleplaying, as opposed to LARPing, D&D, etc. I have no idea what the best article title would be though. (I probably wouldn't think to look for 'fandom rpg' when looking up this kind of roleplaying, but I'm not sure what I would look up instead. Just 'RP'?) Franzeska (talk) 00:59, 18 April 2017 (UTC)
We could call it Fannish Roleplaying and have a section to explain who uses what terminology and when. "Fandom RPG" gets 26,000 google hits, so somebody is using it.[1]--aethel (talk) 21:15, 18 April 2017 (UTC)
I posted a poll in my DW about the fandom RPG terminology--it is legitimate, but may not be used much any more? or only in certain contexts.[2]--aethel (talk) 02:38, 29 August 2017 (UTC)
Text-based Roleplay, Text-based Online Roleplay or Text-Based Fannish Roleplay may also work as a title - since, to my knowledge, no other form of roleplay is primarily written. That way the title is distinct from say, fannish LARP or tabletop roleplays based on fandom characters or settings. --Lachless (talk) 13:58, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
Or, alternatively - we could make like the LARP page and just use the acronym, RP. That way we use the terminology that’s used most often by fans, but it’s still distinct from other types of roleplay. At the moment it redirects to the roleplaying article, but as ‘RP’ specifically means this page’s type of roleplay it would be better served directing here in any case. Trying to find another thing to call it might be overcomplicating things - now I think about it more, I’m leaning in favour of this option. --Lachless (talk) 23:01, 24 April 2021 (UTC)
Re calling it RP: never mind that, I’d completely forgotten that ‘RP’ could also stand for ‘real person’. --Lachless (talk) 06:27, 25 April 2021 (UTC)

Fandom RPG vs Roleplay

Anyone have ideas for figuring out what belongs on Roleplay and what belongs here? —caes (talk) 15:03, 4 February 2020 (UTC)

Someone on the wish list has suggested that Roleplay becomes a disambiguation page with links to here, Role-Playing Game, LARP, MMORPG, Tabletop etc. I agree with the suggestion myself - there’s no use having two articles on basically the same thing, and anyway ‘roleplay’ is a vague enough term that there are lots of things that someone searching for the term could be looking for. --Lachless (talk) 13:58, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
A similiar discussion is currently going on on the Roleplay talk page, so it might be worth it to take a look if you're interested in the issue. --SecurityBreach (talk) 15:37, 22 April 2021 (UTC)
