Does an SPN vid like The Fifth Circle by Luminosity count as constructed reality? I mean, at the time it was posted it didn't contradict canon when it told about Dean in hell and Sam doing rituals to get him out (much like speculative fanfic gets jossed but isn't AU), but it uses footage not from the source text to tell a story that didn't happen on screen. So I don't know whether it fits the definition or not.--Ratcreature 13:51, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

Does the "Goodbye Earl" part of "Country Cavalcade" by Sisabet and Dawn count? (I think the link to use is this one: http://sisabet.livejournal.com/220944.html) It's a trio of vidlets, and the first part is Buffy AU... Kass 16:25, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, I would say the "Goodbye Earl" bit works. Maybe "Using a song with a strong narrative in the lyrics and 'casting' characters in the vid so that they fit into the narrative in the song" could be a separate "technique," similar to but not quite identical with the first technique on the list? An example of that would be "Goodbye Earl," and probably Barkley's "Fancy" LKBV with Daniel Jackson as Fancy. -- Liviapenn 23:35, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
HDU! Fancy is 100% canon compliant! ;) Franzeska (talk) 09:16, 21 January 2020 (UTC)

Should the "Written by the Victors" vid be on here? There are a reasonable number of vids that illustrate a fic (I can think of two for Speranza and one for Synecdochic, for example) and although definitely Constructed Reality, maybe they should be their own category?--Emma 20:16, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

I'd say leave it here, and when a Vids for Stories page gets written, add a (see also) link here to there.--Sherrold 20:58, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
I started a Fic Trailer page.--Aethel 17:55, 15 November 2008 (UTC)

sorting the notable examples?

could we sort the vid list somehow? Maybe by publishing date in a kind of mini-timeline?--Ratcreature 22:33, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

A timeline would be awesome. -- Liviapenn 23:35, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
Well, the two SPN ones I added were posted 15 May 007 (The Heist) and 29 March 2008 (Impulse). The ones that have already fanlore entries I checked and Climbing Up the Walls is August 2008, Too Good To Be True 21 May 2007, Scandalous from 24 March 2008, Closer is only listed with dates of becoming widely linked not when it was made, That's All has no date listed in its entry, and I don't really know about the others either.--Ratcreature 23:51, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

Faster Kill Pussycat?

From the description, this sounds like a normal unconventional relationship vid. Is there any in particular other than the noncanonical relationship that would make it a constructed reality story? --rache 23:28, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

The "constructed reality" part is where Talitha combines scenes that Chloe and Lana weren't actually in together, in order to create new Chloe/Lana scenes. -- Liviapenn 23:35, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

AMVs?

I added Tainted Donuts to "Modern Computer Vidding" -- it's a 2001 AMV that I'm reasonably sure was made on computer. But it's an AMV, not a vid, and I'm wondering if we don't just need a separate section for AMVs. I'm not involved in the AMV community, though, so couldn't really write up the section. (Tainted Donuts is pretty much the sum total of my knowledge of AMV constructed realities...) --Arduinna 09:37, 26 November 2008 (UTC)

I imagine there would be a lot of different techniques for constructed reality in AMV vidding. One I can think of is that with animated source, you can edit the characters' mouth-movements so it looks like they're singing the lyrics, like in this classic Neon Genesis Evangelion vid. But yeah, that might need its own page. -- Liviapenn 09:50, 26 November 2008 (UTC)
Oh, I didn't mean a new page, I just meant an AMV section on this page -- AMV editing is a distinct (although obviously very similar) thing from vidding, and I don't think it's accurate/appropriate to stick AMVs into a list where everything else is a vid and where the title of the section is "modern computer vidding" rather than "modern computer video editing" (which is more inclusive, but not fannish terminology, so I'm iffy on that, as well -- it's almost too inclusive). And yeah, the lip-synch thing is standard in AMVs; it's considered poor editing if a character's mouth moves and it isn't in synch with the audio. (Hee, I knew that was going to be Engel, I love that one!) I just don't know enough about AMVs to do any justice at all to a section about them. --Arduinna 20:27, 26 November 2008 (UTC)

How does a constructed reality vid different from an AU vid?

Perhaps a section for the page? --MPH (talk) 20:37, 9 September 2018 (UTC)
