Talk:Code 7

I was trying to link the works of Katherine Robertson so her article would be properly wikilinked, so I checked on the SH archive what's by her, and she has listed Blinded by the Light in Code 7 #4 as hers for ex., but here the name is different, as Marian Kelly (M. Kelly in the zine section, but in the article intro the first name is given as Marian). Should I make a redirect from Marian Kelly to Katherine Robertson, edit the name here to the archive name?--Ratcreature 21:23, 24 October 2009 (UTC)

She would like to be known as Marion Kelly online. That's what I've been told, anyway. So, I suppose her name should be handled a la April Valentine. With Starsky and Huch, when running into a discrepancy between a name on a zine and the name in the SH archive, go with the archive. I know those names were vetted through Flamingo. Well, the name in the archive is Katherine Robertson: http://starskyhutcharchive.com/stories.php?genre=slash&authid=103 --Ratcreature 21:45, 24 October 2009 (UTC)
whoops, I meant it the other way around. Always go with the archive. I'll make sure the zine list gets fixed. Mrs. Potato Head 21:54, 24 October 2009 (UTC)

First US S/H zine?

According to the slash article and the Trace Elements article Trace Elements was published in 1982. This article here and the slash article agree that Code 7 issue #1 was published in 1981, yet in the "Code 7 vs. Trace Elements" section of this article it says that Code 7 #1 was: "nearly the first slash S/H zine to come out, but when the W.H.I.P.S. in Houston heard that they were going to publish the zine without author's names, they felt the Code 7 staff were allowing themselves to be influenced by the anti-slashers, and they hurried their own zine, Trace Elements, out before Code 7, complete with authors' names." Something is not right here. --Doro 23:00, 29 December 2009 (UTC)

Let me contact someone who knows, okay? Mrs. Potato Head 23:03, 29 December 2009 (UTC)
I have both zines in my hand. Trace Elements is undated and Code 7 #1 has the date of 1981. I remember asking Rosemary, one of the original writers in Trace Elements about this in July, and she knew what end was up. I just emailed her, and two other people, to pick their brains. Great, thanks! :) Maybe it's just that the wording somewhere isn't as clear as it could be. Just for reference purposes, here is the relevant part (quoting Klangley) from slash article: The first US S/H zine was Code 7 #1 (1981, Karen B., ed.). Karen had been advertising this zine (and some other S/H zines) for upcoming publication within the pages of The S&H Letterzine when suddenly it was listed as cancelled with no explanation. In reality, the zine hadn't been cancelled. Word had gone through fandom of troublemakers who were planning to "out" these slash zines to TPTB. So Karen went underground with the zine, publishing it with no names listed: no authors, no artists, no editor. In the meantime, however, other S/H was going forward, such as Graven Images by Jane Aumerle (pre-S/H, 1981). Terri and Chris published a "Statement of Intent" in the Letterzine, stating that they were not going to be intimidated into pushing any slash material in their zines underground. Annette H. and Pam R. began advertising Trace Elements (which was published in 1982). (see Slash#History_of_the_Genre)
