Talk:A+ Parenting

I'm not really sure how to work this into the page but for whatever reason the BNHA wrangler has chosen to make Todoroki Enji | Endeavor's Bad Parenting the canonical tag for this, although plenty of tags along the lines of both "Todoroki Enji's A+ parenting" and "Endeavor’s A+ Parenting" exist, as well as "Todoroki Enji | Endeavor's A+ Parenting" - Hoopla (talk) 15:54, 16 February 2019 (UTC)

Ahahaha OMG, I went to add it, saw that exact issue, and came here also about to also bring it up. I guess... we could have a section discussing the fact that sometimes the tag isn't always the canonical tag, but it's synonymous/merged with "X's Bad Parenting", as seen in this example? Just because it's not the canonical tag on Ao3 doesn't mean it's not something fandom uses, clearly. --Punkpixieprince (talk) 03:56, 18 February 2019 (UTC)
You and me: the same wavelength.
Yeah, something like that seems best? I wasn't able to find any other non-western fandoms that use it (admittedly: I did not look very hard) so maybe there's some kind of disconnect between the western fandoms otherwise listed on this page and the BNHA fandom/wranglers. - Hoopla (talk) 04:00, 18 February 2019 (UTC)
Yeah I kept the bit about anime fandom general because in anime fandom I see a lot more "bad parenting," but this isn't a page about pad parenting as a trope. I'm thinking about making a page of anime tropes like the evil dad and dead mom. – caes (talk) 04:56, 18 February 2019 (UTC)
While it's true anime lends itself more towards Evil & Absentee Parents rather than this specific trope (ie, abusive parenting)--which, incidentally, is probably part of why it's hard to find anime examples--what we're talking about specifically is how the term "Endeavor's A+ Parenting" is definitely used in some areas of BNHA fandom. And it is also used on Ao3, it's just not the canonized Ao3 tag. So even if we're going to give wranglers final say here (which I hesitate to do), we should at least mention that over 50% (35/67) of the synonymous tags use some variation of this specific term. If nothing else, it's both a great indicator that the two terms are indeed synonymous, and that usage is only ever sarcastic. We could even mention that the terminology is contentious/less broad in at least one anime fandom. (If you have more examples, that'd be great, since rn there are a few canonized "A+ Parenting" tags from anime fandoms in our list and we'd need more counter-examples to make that specific case.)
This all being said, I think we should definitely make a tag for the related Evil Parents trope. --Punkpixieprince (talk) 00:00, 20 February 2019 (UTC)
