Sunnydale Magic Shop was a Yahoo group that had moderated membership, with 1,399 members at its close. The group's peak period was in 2002-2003. While posting diminished rapidly by 2005, when it was active it had as many as 2000 messages a month. Discussion ranged from celebrity news and merchandise requests to searches for episode recordings and episode discussion. A few fanfiction stories were posted and RPGs recruited for but this was in the minority in terms of content.

Re: Eliza Dushku Wonder Woman? That's awesome! I heard on the radio yesterday that Jennifer Love Hewitt was being asked to do it. But I'd much rather have Eliza do it. She kicks butt!!

oh right, thanks for clearing that up - i guess it would be kinda silly if a new slayer was calld each time, cos someone could like keep killing and reviving a slayer to make an army of slayers, hehe. anyway, anyonw ever wondered how spike smokes? - how do vampires inhale if they have no breath? also, am i the only person who thought that kendra was totally cool? - inn fact buffy in prob the worst slayer out of all of them, (not including the first slayer or the ones spike killed) also, anyone ever seen nerf herder live? i heard they were playign ata place near me, could be interesting

A lesbian's perspective:

Well, the point of commercial television, under a Capitalist government, is, the people who buy the products should be represented in the percentages we exist in Real Life. I buy Tide Detergent, straight people buy Tide detergent...we should be represented in appropriate numbers... and we're not and neither are most minorities.

There has also been a "Dead Gay/Lesbian" cliche, in the entertainment industry that is based on a very real fact. Until recently, we were almost always killed...or went straight...or insane...or made unhappy but just a nice, ALIVE lesbian couple...not allowed to exist, until very recently.

Joss made a difference with Willow and Tara. You kill Joyce and there are still plenty of heterosexuals...white, by the way, left, for the heterosexual audience to identify with. You kill Tara and ...not so much...

However, I also don't agree with all the Upset Lesbians, in this particular case. How can they accuse the man who invented the Happy Lesbian Couple, of being a homophobe? In Jossverse, no couple gets to stay happy and alive, for very long and Tara and Willow beat those odds for years. They are one of the longest lasting couples in Buffyverse. So, though I do NOT think we are fairly represented in the Commercial Media, I don't think this falls under that. I was sad and horrified to see Tara die but I do understand why they did it. How else whould they have made Willow go that Dark and they've wanted Willow to go Dark for a while.

Plus, as Lin pointed out, it's not being very fair to Willow.... It's like she doesn't count. She's still a lesbian and she's not dead. I think the Gay/Lesbian movement should be happy to have Willow.

The "Spike People" are even worse than the gays/lesbians, however. You should read some of the stuff at BAPs, about the treatment of Spike. They have become vicious and they make one wonder why they watch the show at all. The "Spike people" are pro-Spike...which I also am. BAPs is "Bloody Awful Poets"... They don't like the storyline..."kick the Spike" crap...and I too, get tired of it but they should keep in mind...the better a character, in Buffy/Angel...the more they will get kicked around. They take their anger too far, though. I swear between the lesbians and the pro-Spike folks...Joss should hire a bodyguard.

What really pissed me off...all the young lesbians saying they had killed their role models...their inspiration for "coming out"...their blueprint for being a lesbian couple. Jeez...when I was a young lesbian they weren't even allowed to say "lesbian" on the television....I still figured out how to be one.

I cried more over Joyce, too...though cried over both. I cried when Oz left and when Jenny died. I've never loved a show that makes me this sad, before.

I get what you mean there as well - sometimes I forget how quickly things have progressed here. It was only 5 or 6 years ago that UK TV featured it's first lesbian kiss, less for it's first gay male kiss. When I was 15 and figuring out I was gay, I had no role models. The only gay men on TV were the naff, camp comedians (stand up Dale Winton and Julian Clary[twat]). Hard to believe that was only eight years ago. Who knows, maybe in another eight years we'll see happy, normal same sex relationships regularly portrayed on TV as just that - normal.
