Squidge is a word historically used to describe a specifically sexual kind of squee. (Essentially, it is onomatopoeia for excitement within the girly bits.) Although this term had considerable parlance in the middle 1990s, it appears to have fallen largely out of favor, replaced by kink or other, less direct, elocutions.

The organization Squidge.ORG maintains the original usage of the word in fandom -- specifically, X-Files fandom -- and provides a perspective on the word's former popularity, the domain name having been chosen "that 'fit' the group well" at the time of its founding in 1994.[1]

Regarding the name, a fan in 2007 said somewhat tongue-in-cheek:

I respect fanfic; I respect fandom & fans. However, my respect earns no points with the mainstream... I'm a weird freaky person to them. A pervert, to some of them. I pass for normal... but I can't make Squidge.org sound like a place where "respectable members of the community" want to spend their spare time. [2]
