"Ships That Pass In The Night" is a short story by toujours_nigel that is a crossover between Mary Renault's 1953 novel The Charioteer and E. M. Forster's posthumously published novel Maurice. It is set during a summer holiday when Ralph Lanyon is still at school.
Synopsis
Ralph is crewing on board a ship captained by Maurice Hall. The latter has spotted both Ralph's homosexuality and the fact that a younger boy on board, Peter Thompson, has developed a crush on him.
Background
That Ralph enjoyed a working holiday aboard ship is canon, mentioned briefly in Chapter Two of The Charioteer.
