Time travel!!! I love the time jumping and the different scenarios that come up, it makes all the various near death experiences humorous. The multiple Johns we encounter are done brilliantly and subtly, as he ages his voice and attitude change too. A sort of SGA version of "The Time Traveler's Wife" minus the novel's main plot plus Schrödinger's cat, where Rodney travels in time to save John from dying, repeatedly.I wish I could say "I love everything she wrote", but Speranza's stories are a bit of a hit-or-miss for me. Written by the Victors remains one of my favourite SGA stories of all times, yet I still have not been able to finish OK Computer.
One thing I really love about Speranza's writing is her almost picturesque style of storytelling, and this story is no different -- events in the story travel through your mind with such vivid colours and you can almost see, hear, and feel the characters right in front of you. While Sheppard's Law is no fluff fest, and Rodney and John's story is a little heart-breaking, everything ends well. Recommended for those with a penchant for stories with a well-written plot and serious themes. [2]
I love stories that mess with time and still maintain internal consistency. This is a really, really neat idea, and one of the most inventive almost-AUs I’ve ever read. And I love getting to meet younger John, and getting to watch the power dynamic between him and Rodney evolve. It’s subtle and drawn out in a really cool way. So good. [3]
This fic is a fandom classic. This is the story of John Sheppard growing into the man he is, with a little help from Rodney along the way ; ) I loved John at all ages in this, and seeing Rodney through John’s eyes at various ages is fascinating. I love the evolution of John and Rodney’s relationship through this fic, how it changes and grows. Rodney works so tirelessly to get ‘his’ John back, and John wants so badly to be the man Rodney knows. My feelings for this fic is a big mess of “Love!” and “Reread often!”
Plus, who can resist a young!John hitting on Rodney? [4]
Yet another epic, everyone has already read it but how can I possibly not rec it, perfectly well-written, Speranza you get me every time, fic. The one with the box. Or, the one where McKay is there to save Sheppard from himself every time. Or, the one that is a bit Time Traveler’s Wife, maybe, or a bit Quantum Leap, but is fantastic![5]
