She Walks in Beauty 1 was published in November 1990 and contains 275 pages. It was edited by Sue K, J.D. Miner & J. Humphrey. The art is by Sue K with one illo by Karen Jones.

It is a Classic anthology of poems, fiction, and art.

From an ad:

"She Walks in Beauty" is a new storyline devoted to tales of Catherine, Vincent and their worlds. Full-color cover and interior illustrations by Sue K.; also Karen Jones.
  • Once Upon A Time by Guinn Berger — Catherine is getting married to Vincent, but not the Vincent she fell love with. Who is this stranger standing beside her at the altar?
  • To Love and be Loved by Jess Davis — When Catherine and Vincent go on a camping trip deep into the Tunnels, they discover in darkness a new freedom for their passion.
  • ' There is No Darkness, by Anita Hoosan — In the care of a Witness Protection Program, Catherine recovers from her captivity and awaits reunion with her infant son and the man she loves. A wonderful Third Season resolution story.
  • The Face of A Stranger, by Jeanie Humphrey — A police detective with a grudge against Catherine discovered her link to a series of murders committed by "The Slasher". Rather than arrest her, he plots a more enjoyable method of revenge through blackmail and coercion— and an unexpected threat to Vincent.
  • The Third Wish, by Sue K - Catherine learns the meaning of the old adage: "Be careful what you wish for — you might get it!"
  • And Love Shall Conquer by J.D. Miner — An alternate ending to "The Real is Silence" which begins as Catherine enters the cave in pursuit of Vincent. Catherine faces Vincent's dark side with only her love as a shield.[1]

From the zine:

Jeanie, J.D. and I came up with the idea for this fanzine during one of our many discussions of the importance of the character of Catherine to what we loved about Beauty and the Beast. We'd done our grieving, and had ultimately rejected the death of Catherine as being an impossibility: something to be ignored - or defied. This 'zine, then, is something of a statement. Many 'zines have been dedicated to Vincent, to his childhood and life with (and without) Catherine, but we'd seen few (if any) that focused on Catherine. We decided to take a step toward rectifying this situation. And so, "She Walks in Beauty" was born: a Beauty and the Beast 'zine with Catherine as its focus.

In this 'zine you will find many interpretations of Catherine. We've learned an important lesson from the aftermath o f Third Season-that we all bring different thoughts and feelings to what we see on the television screen. Even when two people agree on the importance of Catherine Chandler, they may see her very differently. In light of this, we've tried to include many "visions" of Catherine, her world and her love for Vincent You will see Catherine in all the roles of woman: Friend, daughter, mother, nurturer, defender, warrior, lover, wife, and most of all-human being. For we see Catherine as very much a human being. someone in whom we see a reflection of the best part of ourselves. It is this essential magic - the magic of Linda Hamilton's portrayal of Catherine Chandler - which made the transcendental love of Beauty and the Beast real for us.

Also from the zine:

The loss of the show we all loved so much could very well have been the end of the magic that it brought into many of our lives. However, the message of Love and Hope that we have felt will never be lost as we continue to re-create our favorite characters with the written word.

Perhaps you, the reader, will find in the stories that follow a little of that magic we all miss so much. If you do, then this zine has been a success.

Also, it will be our policy to always strive for a "happy ending", and if a story does not end in this issue, stay tuned for the next one. If after reading it you do not have a good feeling, then I truly will be disappointed.

It's hard for me to believe that a year ago I bad no idea what a fanzine was. and now I find myself in the midst of producing one. When I did discover them, I spent my life savings on them. Often I would read them in the same day that I received them in the mail. They have been my salvation without the show on the air. I have a great love for them though I'm sure we would all admit that they are a poor substitute for Ron's eyes and thighs, or his sexy voice.

Reactions and Reviews: Issue 1

A wide variety of stories, well edited. [2]

This zine contains a collection of stories where Catherine is the focus. "Once Upon A Time" offers readers a nice alternative to 'TRIS'; 'There Is No Darkness' is a post 3rd season SND story line. In 'The Third Wish,' Catherine finds herself turning into a female version of Vincent. Very original.[3]

Issue 2

cover of issue #2, Catherine Marsden

She Walks in Beauty 2 was published in April 1991 and contains 277 pages.

The art is by Catherine Marsden and Belinda.

It was edited by J.D. Miner & J. Humphrey. The zine contains numerous black and white illustrations by Catherine DeMasque as well as Belinda.

From the editorial by Miner:

On behalf of the Little Buddy Press, I would like to thank all of you for ordering She Walks in Beauty II. The decision to go ahead with a second issue was not an easy one. But the letters of encouragement that many of you have sent, resulted in us making this decision to continue on with our dream, and it is our sincerest hope that you are pleased with the outcome. Hopefully the stories, poems and artwork presented here will bring you a little of the joy that Beauty and the Beast has brought to us all. The true magic of Ron Perlman and Linda Hamilton's portrayal of Catherine and Vincent cannot be matched, however we hope that reading this zine will help a little to dull the pain that losing the show we all love so much has caused.

[...]

Editing this zine has been a labour of love; one I for one have enjoyed tremendously, in spite of the deadlines and worries. No one person is responsible for the efforts it took to put together; there were many, and our thanks must be extended to all those who have participated. From the writers and artists to the proof-readers...the enthusiasm that they have exhibited has been remarkable.

I would like to express a sincere thank you to Sue Krinard for her efforts in helping put together our first issue of She Walks in Beauty. If our second issue is a success, and of course we hope that it will be, it will be largely because of the precedent she has set with the first issue. Thank you Sue...we wish you well!

I would also like to thank The Canadian Extension of the Linda Hamilton Underground who have played a key role as a sounding board and cheering committee; Thank you...and I love you all!

Lastly, I must thank Jeanie Humphrey for all her work, and mostly for her faith in me that has never wavered. Without her there would never have been a She Walks in Beauty..., or at least not one that I would have been a part of. Jeanie, you are a joy to work with.

From the editorial by Humphrey:

I would also like to extend my thanks to Janet Knights and Blue Sterling who both helped with the editing and proofreading and also Belinda who contributed some beautiful artwork.

Thank you Barbara Storey and Victoria Clark for your support and advice. We are proud to be the first zine to be printed by their new printing company that uses recycled paper which in turn helps to preserve our resources.

And of course, I want to thank Jo-Anne, my partner and friend. You did an outstanding job with the lay-out, and the bulk of the work. I enjoyed every minute, even the 3:00 a.m. editing session. Say, would you like to edit some more... or -- or.......!?

My best wishes go to Sue Krinard who left the Little Buddy Press to pursue other projects after the first issue. We miss you, Sue, but know that you are in our thoughts.

Reactions and Reviews: Issue 2

In the longest story, Catherine survives the morphine injection and is rescued by Vincent. Diana appears also. Buyers should note that while all stories focus on the Catherine and Vincent relationship, in 'Love's Sweetest Gift,' Catherine does have a brief sexual affair with Joe Maxwell after Vincent ends their relationship.[4]

Classic, dealing with the immediate aftermath of the Trilogy, and SND 3rd season. Most of the zine is devoted to P. K. Sollenberger's “When Love Returns,” virtually a novel in itself. It's a well written but fairly standard “Catherine awakes from a coma, is reconciled with Vincent” story, with the addition of a threat from one of Gabriel's colleagues. There's some poetry. Other fiction contributors include Lynn Westmoreland, Sue Isle, Debbie Ristick, D. J. Humphrey and J. D. Miner, Jess Davis, and Janet Knights. Cover and excellent interior artwork for this volume by [Catherine DeMasque]. Well edited.[5]
