Scaly Tales is a het, gen and slash Deep Space Nine e-zine anthology, focusing on Cardassians. It was part of Lady Kardasi's Domain.

This project was inspired by Strange Fits of Passion.

Its Successor

Scaly Tales became Neutral Zine in 2000.

The editor explained:

This is the new version of Scaly Tales. After one year on the 'net, that zine changes into The Neutral Zine. The reasons are many. Mainly because I, as a fan, have ventured into other fandoms and am no longer restricted to the Cardies, and my passion/enthusiasm has dwindled since the end of DS9. I still could have filled the zine with Cardie stories thanks to wonderful authors always helping out and submitting works. However, I felt it was time to move on and expand - and this is the result. I hope this version of the zine will be as popular and recieve [sic] as much positive feedback as Scaly Tales did.

Reactions and Reviews: General

After four days of binging on K/S stories ALL NIGHT LONG over spring break, I didn't think I could get any insaner... but then I clicked on the fanfiction.net link to your site and that AMAZING drawing of them flooded into my eyes like some kind of chemical reaction.... OMG.... i had to stifle my hysterical giggles with a pillow. I haven't even barely looked at your site yet but already I think it's amazing and will get a link on my page as soon as I can get my FTP to work. Incidentally my boyfriend calls K/S fanfic "Spirk"... lol... keep it up hon :-)

Finally found Scaly Tales!!! Yeah! It's everything I hoped and more. Love all your stories, just finished 'Loving the Enemy in Outpost 10' and nearly went green with envy. I wish my writing was as...well, lets just say, you rule, girl! Keep it coming. Dukat and Kira forever!!!"

I just wanted to thank you for 'A Heated Encounter'. I like this Ziyal, headstrong and spirited - what the character *should* have been. It's way past my bedtime, but this was worth staying up for...no doubt I'll have delightful dreams tonight!

Hi hi. Good job on your insignias; the colors and textures are striking. I'm glad you opted for displaying them. "Dukat In Color" is just gorgeous and startlingly lifelike. I also had a chance to read "The Gift" and it moved me to tears, so much that I had to send the author a note telling her what a great piece of work it was. I now return you to your regularly scheduled Dreambook.

I love the painting of Dukat. It is so lovely and so alive. I've never seen a painting like that. Lauren is a true artist - as is everyone who worked to make this online magazine a success. it's beautiful, but I'm awestruck when I look at Lauren's Dukat in Color.. wow.

A totally new look for each new issue - pretty. And your insignias this time around are a total head trip! I came home at noon, read about the update and dashed over...and I'm still here! I'll have to come back later and finish reading; 'Significant Other' took the wind out of me! Ciao baby.

Issue # 4 of Scaly Tales is up and running... And this time folks, boy am I proud of this issue. It has something for everyone. Stories ranging from G, PG to R and NC17.

We have stories with Garak, Damar and Dukat. Even a story with some female Cardassians :-) There is slash and het stories and some funny stuff as well. There are 169 Word snippets in answer to the Challenges issued on the ReptilianRomance and Scaly Tales lists.

There are also a few interesting artworks by Cattnip - and yours truly.

So, Get your rear in gear and visit the new issue. Tell the authors how you feel about their stories!!! Send FEEDBACK! To me for doing all this work (it takes a few hours each time y'know... ), to the authors, (who spend hours writing the stories you enjoy...) to the artists (who spend hours making lovely (?) art for you to rest your eyes on... )

This was my fist visit to Scaly Tales, and I must say that I'm impressed. I haven't read all the stories yet, but I will be bookmarking the site so I can return. The layout and graphics are very easy on the eyes, always a big plus. :)

Kira-Nerys, you have outdone yourself! This issue is the best yet. The artwork is fabulous, the layout great, and the stories are amazing. There's such a variety, and I can't wait to read them all. Yes, many hours of reading enjoyment and fantasizing here... Keep up the good work, Kira! We appreciate it so much. This is one way to keep DS9 alive forever.

What a great site. I loved it. I especially enjoy all stories featuring Damar and thank you Erin for " God's Hands" which I thoroughly enjoyed. Pesonally I am in denial about the end of DS9 and please keep writing! Thank you.

After hours of searching for a decent adult het story starring Damar I was ecstatic to find God's Hand! Liked the dialogue and tension between Ezri and Big D, although did occasionally wish all the previous trill hosts would give it a rest. The build-up as the story progressed was terrific, and I was completely psyched for Ezri's final fantastic roll on the deck with my favourite Cardassian hunk, and then......phhhhttt, big let down......no description, no details, no HEAT!! Aaaaaghh!! Huge potential, right up until the last few paragraphs.

• Challenge # 1L "From kira-nerys: As you might know Marc and Casey got a gift basket each at the Weekend. Marc was given various items among which there was a motorcycle model of a Harley Davidson sportster. Casey got a "Make Your Own Toga Kit" (referring to his role as Odysseus and the shipwreck - Casey was nude onstage when he played this). Anyway - These guys were hilarious in their repartee. Marc said something to the effect of "You'll have to model the toga." to which Casey replied "Only if you let me ride your motorbike" - "Wearing the toga," was Marc's reply. Whereas they kept going with jokes. "I'll trade you my motorcycle for the toga!" said Marc and everyone laughed. Ever since then I've had this image in my head of Dukat and Damar on a motorbike. Dukat in leather gear with a Harley Davidson and Damar on the back of it wearing a greek toga... Write it! Anyone who feels up to taking this challenge - you're welcome to it. All these center around Dukat and Damar of course. Slashy bits occurr."

So my challenge would be, make Dukat go through the kind of crazy unrealistic time vortex/ unknown alien entity/ trapped in a strange energy field situation that the Feds suffer almost every week. I'd also love to see Dukat meeting Q. It would be just great to see how Q would react to Dukat. A meeting between those two would be fun I think."
