The tie-in novel, The Diary of Ellen Rimbauer: My Life at Rose Red, was written by Ridley Pearson - it was released in 2001.

Fandom

The fandom for the miniseries is a small, however it has a handful of fanworks at FanFiction.Net, Adult-Fanfiction.org, Archive Of Our Own, Tumblr and YouTube. A LiveJournal community, rose-red-, was created for the series in May 2003 and was last active in 2006.

Due to the small fandom, there is not a lot of shipping, most fanfiction and vids focus on gen works. The ships Nick/Steve and Annie/Nick have appeared more than once. There are handful of OCs fics, sometimes pairing them with Nick or Steve. Surprisingly there has been little femslash created for the series despite the implied canon (as seen in the miniseries)/confirmed canon (as in the Diary of Ellen Rimbauer novel) Sukeena/Ellen.

Connections with Other Fandoms

Many compare it with The Haunting of Hill House/The Haunting, which has a similar plot about a group going to a haunted house. References to the Ghostbusters and A Christmas Carol, plus many more from Stephen King's own novels.

Kimberly J. Brown (Annie) is known for her role as Marnie Piper of Halloweentown. Emily Deschanel (Pam) would go on to star as Temperance Brennan of Bones. Matt Keeslar (Steve) would go on to star in The Middleman. Jimmi Simpson (Kevin) would go on to star in Breakout Kings. Stephen King portrayed the pizza delivery man.
