"Welcome to rec.arts.comics.marvel.xbooks, the Official Newsgroup for The Mutant Universe of Marvel Comics. This is the place to discuss the X-Men comic books: critique the plots, analyze the artwork, and debate whether or not Jean Grey Is Still Dead On The Blue Area Of The Moon."

[rec.arts.comics] XBOOKS FAQ

rec.arts.comics.marvel.xbooks, or RACMX (pronounced "Rack-Mix"), was a newsgroup created approximately in 1993 for the discussion of the X-Men comics until 2012, although for years there was as much spam posted as actual discussion. It was the main stay for the X-Men fandom in those days, hosting discussion, reviews and surveys. It succeeded rec.arts.comics.xbooks, another newsgroup for the discussion of things X-related, and in the words of the FAQ, RACMX was the latest in a long line of newsgroups dealing with the X-Men.[1]

There were, however, some clashes between the comics fandom people and the fan-fiction people. Only original fiction was allowed on the list and some subscribers to the list became tired of the increase in non-X-books posts generated by the posting of fanfic, and so Alt.comic.fan-fiction (aka ACFF) was created in response. With the creation of ACFF peace was restored.

UsenetArchives.com has only 3042 discussions listed, none of which pre-date September 2005; however, the google group has posts going back to 1992.
