Rat Jam is an online counterpart (also called an online con, lj-con, or alterna-con) to Muskrat Jamboree. While the first MJ was going on, Rat Jam featured parallel programming so that fans around the world who weren't physically at MJ could be part of the shared squee.
Rat Jam is akin to other onlinecons like Non_Txt (parallel to Con.txt) and was directly inspired by the first out.of.con.txt run by china_shop and sageness.
Rat Jam 1
Before the first MJ, Rat Jam featured a promptathon in which fans were invited to write, vid, make icons, and make fanart to prompts suggested by community members. During the con itself, the community featured a series of meta posts by MJ panel moderators and others, organized around the same themes as the panels happening at the con and posted in realtime; a Viewing Party (community members synchronized watching of various fannish source around the world and hung out together in chat to discuss what they were watching); and a bunch of meta-discussions and conversations.
Rat Jam 2
It is not yet known whether there will be a Rat Jam 2 in parallel with Muskrat Jamboree 2.
