"Rambling" is a short story by Greer Watson based on Mary Renault's 1953 novel The Charioteer. It is set between the first two chapters of the book, when Laurie is home from school for the summer holidays one year.

Synopsis

On a hot summer day, Laurie goes for a long bicycle ride round the country lanes, accompanied by his dog, Gyp.

"Rambling" was written in response to The Dog Days of Summer Challenge to the prompt “the dog days of summer”. The story was originally posted to the maryrenaultfics community on 29 August 2007,[1] and shortly thereafter placed on the author's website.
