Prufrock's Love is an X-Files writer, one who generated much discussion due to the style and content of her fiction, as well as her interaction with fandom. Their name is sometimes abbreviated as PFL in philedom.

Mysteriousness

Prufrock's Love began in X-Files fandom under a cloak of mysteriousness, requesting in 2000 no feedback, not replying to emails, and generally being an enigmatic figure. See Couple of Sheepskins.

In 2010, they began to re-post her fiction to Gossamer, something that caused much excitement.

In 2013, they began to write and post new fiction.

Some Fan Comments

2000

  • "Having been a long devoted fan of the Haven, I just wanted to urge everyone looking for a gutsy, beautiful, angst-ridden read to grab ahold of anything by prufrock's love. This author is awesome, and makes your heart ache in the way that MustangSally and RivkaT perfected in Iolokus. I've wasted at least three days at work now plowing through everything on the author's site. Read it!!" [1]

2001

  • "Reading Prufrock's stories is a dazzling experience, and I marvel at the way every word is put together." [2]
  • "Prufrock is fabulous." [3]
  • "I am probably alone in this one but I also love Prufrock's love fics. He/she always takes a different angle to a story and takes an "unflinching" route to the MSR (or lack of it)." [4]

  • "My understanding of prufrock’s love’s historical romances is that they are all about previous incarnations of Mulder and Scully; however, I have never been in a position to confirm this. I confess that I am not a fan of the genre so these fics are not huge favorites of mine, but they are very well done and wildly popular, especially “Paracelsus,” the novel set during the Civil War. Her take on the characters has nothing to do with Sullivan Biddle et al. I guess that means “Paracelsus” is her fixit fic for TFWID. “Paracelsus” is the second novel in the cycle. The first is “Hiraeth,” which is set in North Wales in 1215. The third is “A Moment in the Sun,” set in New York, New York in 1953, and it’s my favorite of the three. The last novel in the AU cycle (as I envision it) is “The 13th Sign.” On the Prufrock Reader Torture Scale, with zero being angst-free (there is no angst-free prufrock story as far as I know, at least none that I would recommend) and ten being “Negative Utopia” or maybe “The Wasteland,” this rates at least a seven. It is neither season eight fic nor is it season nine, but William is there and so is Mulder so I am classifying it as season nine, AU, PG-13. Sometimes I question why I love this fic as much as I do, given my feelings about babyfic and season nine. It is also unabashedly a romance, and you know how I feel about romance. The truth is—I don’t know. Maybe it’s because prufrock’s love writes such a lovely, believable Mulder, negotiating his way through fatherhood under the worst possible circumstances. It doesn’t hurt that there’s some mytharc thrown in for good measure. Of all of her fic, “The 13th Sign,” is my favorite. I also love the sequel, “7 Days in May.” Two more favorites are “The Golden Year” and “Inventing the Mulders,” and I’ve come around to “A Moment in the Sun,” thanks to Amal Nahurriyeh’s review. But “The 13th Sign” is a story that I read again and again. Her Mulder is my Mulder, and her Scully is my Scully and this is my show, this is The X-Files. Whenever I read this story, I remember why I love this fandom. The links are to her Author Page at Gossamer, which has the most recent versions of the historicals. The rest of her fic is on her old site, thank you reocities guy whoever you are.” [5]

  • "She is an amazing author and I love her dark, not "necessarily" msr take on msr. It makes every little touch between them so rewarding. I'm going to have to write to her and tell her all this haha. I love her work so much!" [6]
  • "I've said it before, and I'll say it again: I love the way prufrock's love writes Mulder."[7]
