Project Falcon Flyer. redactedjpg.jpg

Project Falcon was a Star Wars fan campaign. Its late 1970s or early 1980s goal was to have the second United States space shuttle named "Millennium Falcon."

The campaign was spear-headed by Ingrid Maack.

This fan campaign was not without precedence. Star Trek fans had rallied, and were successful with the naming of the first space shuttle, "Enterprise" in September 1976.

Description

From a flyer:

Because I feel that the movie, STAR WARS, made a tremendous influence on a lot of people, and it has also shown us different possibilities of future space travel/ and-or/ ships.

This was especially shown throughout the movie by the Corcllisn starship MILLENIUM [sic] FALCON.

I think it would be very appropriate if the United States named its second space shuttle MILLENIUM [sic] FALCON, because I'm sure the movie has increased interest in the space program.

I've already started a letter writing campaign to try to accomplish this, and I have a few people helping out. I'd greatly appreciate it if all of you STAR WARS fans (and others) would write letters...
