Portus took place in Dallas, Texas, at the Hilton Anatole from July 10, 2008 to July 13, 2008. There was a mix of formal and informal programming throughout the conference. Informal programming began mid-day on July 10th with showings of the Harry Potter movies through out the day and a Wizard Rock Concert later in the evening.The informal programming throughout the conference included Quidditch, wizard rock, special performances and fandom meetups as well as Mystery Masquerade. Formal programming began on July 11th which included sessions on everything from roundtables on how the 7th Harry Potter book has changed the community, to panels looking at the symbolism present in the series, and even to YA readings from authors who have been influenced by Harry Potter. The Keynote Luncheons were given by Dr. Henry Jenkins and Monique Trottier and a special plenary session was given by Jim Dale on Saturday July 12th. [1]
